yunez--beautiful portfolio. honestly, it makes me a bit intimidated about the upcoming school year. I think that in retrospect applying is going to seem like the easy part, once we're all working with (and sometimes competing against) each other. :-) maybe i'll see you at yale.
Maybe call UT just to check. I called to make sure my app was complete and found out they had misspelled my last name. About 2 hours later I received an acceptance email! Coincidence?
Just got an acceptance letter from the University of Oregon via email. Again, no financial aid information. I'm not likely to enroll there (I need another long-distance move like I need a hole in my head), but it's still nice to have options.
The tally so far:
Cincinnati: No info yet
Ohio State: Accepted, no financial aid info yet
Kentucky: No info yet
Oregon: Accepted, no financial aid info yet
City College of NY: No info yet
GSD: No info yet
ha i JUST got that same email. it seems that March 22nd is a tiny bit late, considering how early some of these other schools are informing us...not too late, just not looking forward to waiting 2 more wks haha
A.I.D.: I'm guessing: a) there haven't been enough of them to warrant a posting on gradcafe (which seems to capture <10% of the total applicant population) or b) mmarch13 really is a msaad admit, which he has neither confirmed nor denied yet.
Agh, I got that e-mail too. When I saw "Admissions Decisions" my heart stopped for a second. Splice in 10 frames of a palm tree, beach, ocean sunset and cue contemporary island classics of the 70s.
Now back to my regularly scheduled office activities: TMJ pain, bruxism, hatred, mayonnaise sandwiches, no windows, overhearing my boss brag about her organic cleaning products and "green crusades" (=buying $even more$ organic products)
lol who brags about organic cleaning products? i say bring on the nasty unorganic chemicals, they clean better.
im currently trying to reformat meeting minutes from yesterday into something legible. the penn email was a nice 2 second heart attack break from that.
i know li dandan, my heart literally stopped as well when i got that email just now...
sorry thevillian, i didn't realize anyone had asked...or maybe i might have missed it...in any case, i am, in fact, a fellow M.ARCH applicant. sorry for any confusion...this thread moves so fast i kind of miss a lot haha
Vinegar, lemons, and baking soda are the best (and cheapest, and you can buy them in bulk, and they don't destroy life as we know it) yet they don't give you the same kind of desperately, yet safely, Liberal (TM) street cred that my boss thrives on...
PS: So excited to leave this job in a few months! :)
Yeah, I applied to the 3-year program at UO, although I was hoping they'd give me some advanced standing based on my undergrad experience. The fact that their 3-year program starts in the summer, and that you can't apply for in-state tuition after the first year (not to mention being 2000+ miles away), makes UO an unlikely choice for me.
i haven't heard from Pratt yet either...no idea as of yet when that will be, either. someone told me once that they, for some reason, send their decisions out semi late as well (like end of March)...but don't quote me on that
wow yunez, that is some beautiful stuff. you truly have the design skills pat down.
regarding your comment about it being possible getting into these schools without arch experience, that's true - but i guess i also meant to stick "significant design experience" in there. if u are a dabbler - i.e. have not taken any architecture or design courses and have no architecture or design work experience, and just have a B.A. in some random unrelated subject, then chances of acceptance are much lower, particularly since u are much less likely to have done any projects that are of the type and caliber that would wow them.
last year, per gradcafe, pratt and columbia sent out the same day.
i am waiting on them and also cooper union. cooper may be a physical letter though- again, per gradcafe.
I did follow up the admissions office and they said "indeed, the website is correct"
Not sure why they sent out rejections first this year. Perhaps they have been reading this post, saw that we had cracked the code and figured out the order of notifications, and decided to switch it up this year to play a cruel joke on us...
meh, i'm not feeling too great about my UO application... haven't heard anything yet and it was the first portfolio that i sent out... i had to rush the delivery and send a test print 'cause i was running REALLY, really behind at the time...
on a side note, i exchanged emails with UW on tuesday and they expect decisions to be out "in the next two weeks." i hope it's sooner rather than later... i would love to have the opportunity to explore seattle...
Ohio State - accepted but no idea of $
WUSTL - " "
RISD
University of Oregon
University of Washington
i also applied to my undergraduate school. i was accepted there but would prefer to explore some other schools/regions. BUT there are some big financial incentives in going there again...
i had a 3.5 in undergrad... combined GRE scores of 1300.
yes, yes... my boyfriend has already brought up the idea of traveling to whistler many times, whether from portland/eugene or seattle... i agree about portland, though: it was the main reason i applied to UO and sounds very enticing! have heard that UO doesn't exactly dish out funding, though...
Accepted to U of O! Is anyone else planning to attend the open house? Any idea when it actually is? The email said Friday, April 12, which isn't a real day (at least not this year).
... on that note ADavin, where did you apply? i know GSD and WUSTL were two of them, but my memory eludes me...
i didn't apply to Sci-Arc but i seem to recall browsing their results on gradcafe and seeing that they took a really long time to notify people last year... not until the end of march / early april.
sweetpotato, you mustn't be so sour. look at the positive side: a future in architecture would probably be even bleaker. in all likelihood, a career in finance and designing underwear is a better option for most people
the deadline for the post professional programs, SCIFI and Mediascapes was march first. I applied to SCIFI. have no idea if they even have all of my info.
Portfolio: This is what I made right before I finished school last year, so what you see is not quite what I submitted to schools, but you'll get the general idea...
i just spoke with someone in admissions at sciarc. they have an admissions meeting next week. i suppose we will hear results the following week if everything goes smoothly.
Just out of curiousity to those who wish to give an opinion: what do you all think of my table of contents? That was one of the major things I changed on it, along with overall busy-ness of the portfolio as a whole.
I would love some honest thoughts. Wish I had shared last fall now.
sandiego: I was a graphic design intern, and also worked with an interior designer at an architecture firm, so I am familiar with most of the fabrics and materials that will be used in fashion design, as well as most of the design software used in that line of work. I also am a champion sewer. I am frequently in dance recitals, so I alter or make my own costumes in many cases.
As for finance, I began as an Economics major. Still, getting that kind of job will be as hard as getting into princeton.
your toc is a bit busy for my taste. and I dont like that its at an arbitrary angle. also, as a fellow Alexander, I don't get why the 'A' is slanted in your name. with that said, I do like alot of the content you have inside the portfolio, just could do without the general business.
Razvan: Batman called. :D But I was more interested in appreciating the sound of his voice (so smooth! so young!) than in what he had to say - is that creepy? (yeeeeah, definitely...)
I blubbered something about being completely surprised because competition this year's something Fierce, and he laughed and said, "Well you're a Cal graduate, and we know Berkeley students do very well here at Princeton." Thanks Berkeley alumni, for setting the precedent!
Sbeth, thank you. This has been a great support system for this kid who doesn't actually know anyone else applying to school this round. It'd be great to finally be able to put a face to all the avatars at the open houses!
2010 M.Arch applicants, commiserate here!

dah! joan weston why must you fake me out like that!?!
Maybe call UT just to check. I called to make sure my app was complete and found out they had misspelled my last name. About 2 hours later I received an acceptance email! Coincidence?

why no posts to grad cafe re: gsapp acceptances?
Living in Gin:
University of Oregon?! Did you apply for the 3-Year MArch program?
i've never heard of the "grad cafe" but i keep reading about it in this thread...guess i'll go post my stats... :)
A.I.D.: I'm guessing: a) there haven't been enough of them to warrant a posting on gradcafe (which seems to capture <10% of the total applicant population) or b) mmarch13 really is a msaad admit, which he has neither confirmed nor denied yet.

Just got the same letter from Penn about 22 March
ahh they picked the WORST subject line for that penn email:
"Admissions Decisions"
they shouldve done something like Not Done Yet: You Can Find Out March 22
lol who brags about organic cleaning products? i say bring on the nasty unorganic chemicals, they clean better.
im currently trying to reformat meeting minutes from yesterday into something legible. the penn email was a nice 2 second heart attack break from that.
good god, joan. why do you play with our emotions like that?
i know li dandan, my heart literally stopped as well when i got that email just now...
sorry thevillian, i didn't realize anyone had asked...or maybe i might have missed it...in any case, i am, in fact, a fellow M.ARCH applicant. sorry for any confusion...this thread moves so fast i kind of miss a lot haha
HAHA....I'm glad I read the post on Penn BEFORE I checked my email. Thanks for the heads-up!
Vinegar, lemons, and baking soda are the best (and cheapest, and you can buy them in bulk, and they don't destroy life as we know it) yet they don't give you the same kind of desperately, yet safely, Liberal (TM) street cred that my boss thrives on...

thanks mmarch; that's what I thought ;). my guess is 'a'.
likewise, the penn e-mail was a surprising but nice distraction from typing up 20 pages of PDF text.

Upenn mail has just came to me, too
Wow Penn is going to be slow huh? At least they let y'all know.
Makes me wonder about other schools...
Anyone have any insight on when Pratt and CUNY plan on sending out notifications?
Have still not heard from Tulane.
Rejected from Princeton. At least their generic e-mail was really, really polite.
This is 3/9 schools already. or 3/8. No way I am making GSD.
i haven't heard from Pratt yet either...no idea as of yet when that will be, either. someone told me once that they, for some reason, send their decisions out semi late as well (like end of March)...but don't quote me on that
Atty: If Penn is Being slow, there is a greater chance that they actually read/looked at our stuff.
I don't think I like the sound of that, potato. My stuff is better looked at quickly and without much thought.
I was accepted to UofO as well. It was my second choice school (close to my hometown of Seattle), so I'm thrilled.
A mid-summer start will be difficult.
wow yunez, that is some beautiful stuff. you truly have the design skills pat down.

Hopefully I will get something from them... really loved the program and the aspect of spending final 2 years in Portland
now THAT, Kap, would have some great skiing that your boyfriend would be happy about. Where else are you applying?
Rejected by Princeton
Rejected by Columbia
Probably rejected by Harvard, too!
2 strikes... hard to hit that last pitch, even if it's a fastball when you're down 2 strikes...
...congrats to those who made it to their schools; if you decide to go, best of luck to you in grad school.
ADavin,
hm, the list is... in no particular order
Ohio State - accepted but no idea of $

i am retyping my resume so that I can start applying for jobs..one in designing men's underwear (I am female), and the other in finance.
I had better get into a school. Otherwise the future looks beyond bleak.
i would prefer a job choosing models for the underwear.
i would be somewhat less bitter if models are involved.
Did anyone apply to Sci-arc ?Has anyone heard from Sci-Arc?

Jizzy is wise beyond his years. A true visionary.
i just spoke with someone in admissions at sciarc. they have an admissions meeting next week. i suppose we will hear results the following week if everything goes smoothly.
I am disappointed that I was not accepted at Yale. I am still hopeful for GSD and RISD.
Does anyone know of an online physics course with semester credits that will satisfy GSD's physics requirement?
Just out of curiousity to those who wish to give an opinion: what do you all think of my table of contents? That was one of the major things I changed on it, along with overall busy-ness of the portfolio as a whole.
