I love Architecture. I want to know why you love it. Please share anything related to your love affair with Architecture. There are no limits to this thread.
I honestly love every aspect of the field. I still, after 25 years, wake up happy to go to "work" every day (it's more like doing my hobby).
But my favorite thing about it is the construction side, specifically materials used in ways that are innovative yet responsive to the inherent tendencies of the material itself. Case in point, this aluminum extrusion:
from Orhan Ayyuce's slideshow of OMA's Dallas Performing arts Center. That extrusion, as an object, as a screen, as a shimmering curtain, is deeply thrilling to me. The fact that in my work I get to play with materials like this (though not nearly so well as OMA) is what I love best.
I can't remember what drew me into architecture in the first place, but what I now really enjoy about the job is being able to be creative and being able to shape the world even if with only small projects.
I love architecture too :-)
I love the idea of someday making a difference on my land, making my land better, and architecture is the answer that idea for me. I so love everything about it, especially how it can change human emotion at the sight of beautiful building or objects.
Cause I make tons of money, live in a ultra mod penthouse surrounded by expensive fine art, fast cars, and women, not to mention I have a highly respectable social status in a major urban population and everybody respects my work and knows who I am. Plus I don't even have to work that much. I think this is it? That is how it is on tv....
you just described the life of a lawyer, doctor, accountant, real estate agent, stock broker, banker, commercial pilot, IT-specialist, graphic designer...........
maybe i'm young, but i love it because it's in constant crisis. no one really know what we do...
speaking of hejduk - architects are the few people who can effectually transform someone's ontological state, forget representation - just make the materials do it like Scarpa or Kahn.
I love the fact that the deeper you did the more you find out, our general knowledge of all things - even beyond the profession, the tactility of architecture, the fragility of ideas versus the robust nature of our work, the cool uniforms, the fact that despite all the shit we endure we wouldn't trade it for the world, how we contemplate naming our children after architects, but instead do it to our pets, hmmm waking up next to it and the way it looks at you
philosophy, music, poetry, piano, guitar, sociology, art, mathematics, engineering, literature, etc. is all related to architecture somehow. does anyone know why kante loved architecture?
mental anguish is not the same as physical anguish.

coincidentally read last night...
"Novelists and philosophers are both obsessed with language, and make themselves up out of concepts. Both, in a way, create worlds. World? But the worlds of the novelist, I hear you say, do not exist. As for that--they exist more often than the philosophers'. Then, too--how seldom does it seem to matter. Who honestly cares? They are divine games. Both play at gods..."

the 7+8/2006 issue of detail featured the demonstration house in tosu city by riken yamamoto

Nirvana of Nuance enjoys the language and philosophy of speaking.
i'd like to say that it's because i'm a sadomasochist...except i really only care about myself so probably i'm just a masochist (i.e., no sado)
