Im trying to incorporate some kind of rod/ tube that is clear/ translucent and could have realistic strucural properties. The load would be rather little and I was hoping on using a large number of these "clear rods" if possible.
Is anyone aware of a material that may work in this situtation??
glass can also be used in compression in certain circumstances. it isn't so good in tension, but there are possibilities if you do some research.
ie, glass fin supports for glass walls have been made (museum of glass, somewhere), that glass house thing (ask holz am sure he can find it). also there is all the work by macfarlane, the engineer who figured out all kinds of glass as structures projects. check out his site as place to start.

cast or extruded acrylic rods might be appropriate. depends on lengths (heights) you have to deal with and what loads.
