What is your favorite architecture-interiors-design etc magazine out there?
I'm asking because when I picked up the september issue of the architectural record with its interiors feature, i was disappointed because i had seen all of the feature projects on the internet in the past couple of months,,
so, is the architectural record still an all time favorite? or are the newer magazines coming out better? Or has the internet replaced magazines all together, i would hate it if that happened...
omg holz how did you know i subscribe to The Digest?
yeah, western interiors isn't super cutting edge but it is a solid magazine - modern but warm and friendly, the kind of stuff you can show clients to bring them to the good side of design.
the 'vineyard estate' by aidlin darling design (their site doesn't seem to work in firefox) is one of the better projects i've seen in recent issues of western interiors. it's just good stuff, i always look forward to it.
supposedly the plan can be found in the u.s. in these stores:
borders
barnes and noble
prarie ave bookstore
wexner center bookshop
moma
powell's
william stout
hennessey & ingalls
peter miller
db, i used to subscribe to metropolis. i don't really like the texture of the paper, and the content has diminished significantly, so many adverts. same with dwell, actually.
I don't subscribe to any design or architecture magazine...they are pretty much all disappointing-I haven't found one yet that is talking about architecture and it's relationship to society and its place in the world and maybe have some politics injected in there-it's a lot of visual lifestyle porn with little substance. Sometimes an issue of Metropolis (like this month) has interesting content and I remember an issue of Icon (the manifesto issue) that discussed how a recession would be good for design and architecture-I should look for that issue now. But there is no consistently interesting provocative magazine-probably because they have to appease their advertisers, which means they all have to skew upscale and not rock the boat.
These are arch theory journals, but to me more interesting and relevant than most of the arch porn out there right now (I'm looking at you Mark magazine)

i hear that "the plan" is really good but i've been unable to find it in print
I second Mark.
Also Icon, which has just had a relaunch and has some of it's originality back.
holz,
it's Arquitectura Viva (Living Architecture) not Viva Arquitectura (Hooray Architecture!) ... ;)
whoops!
correct. i really enjoy the few issues of it that i have, as well as AV monograph.
I really like Metropolis for the range it covers
aside from that (generally) I love Detail and A+U

I read "Record" for one major reason: it is a hell of alot cheaper than european arch mags.
domus, detail, metropolis, a10
does el croquis count as a magazine?

Surface and Wallpaper, but I am looking for some nice shoes too
OASE
thanks, all of you, interesting different views
el croquis is in a league of its own
i also think a+u is good, but its also tricky, sometimes the issues are completely useless
Domus and El Croquis for cutting edge design
Interior Design Mag for interiors if its in the US but if you want the most cutting edge in the world, internet is best I think.

praxis
I'm also a fan of detail, praxis, and Mark
not technically architecture, but I also like Make -
