A client of ours wants a house that has the "feel of a craftsman." They want it to be modern as well—just not with a flat roof.
I'm looking for a frame of reference for the comment. Any thoughts about people who are making "modern craftsman" houses? I think of Jim Cutler and Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, but these are a little too northwesty. The project is in California, and wants to feel Californian.
a modern house with a mortise and tenon wood frame could be cool. a little 45d angled bracket here, a lamb's tongue chamfer there, and you can go crazy with the rest!

Off the top of my head check out Public from San Diego. I'll dig around my links and see if I have anything else.
But to only slightly digress, think about the role of craft, as IMHO thats where the feel comes from.
