The wrist watch was an improvement over the pocket watch and made the pocket watch extinct. Will the cell phone make the wrist watch extinct? Much easier to use a watch then to dig into the pocket, pull out watch, find the right side of it, etc. And it is easier to tell time while you're using the phone if you have a watch. And with a wrist watch you can turn the damn phone off. Or better yet leave it at home. Nonetheless kids no longer use their watches if they have a phone so I suppose the wristwatch will soon be unknown.

Watches are jewelry/status/style symbols, not just a way of telling time.
Think about how kids dress - low hanging jeans, silly shirts, etc.
Once they enter the professional world, they will adapt.
