What watch do you wear or wish you could own?

liberty bell

Congrats, marlowe!

I don't have any watch recommendations, but my advice would be to forego too many functions, which add bulk and knobs and whatnot, and keep it sleek, for dress wear.

WonderMan dropped a hint to me the other day that for Christmas he might like one of these:

Not necessarily a "dress" watch, but they are pretty cool, you have to admit!

ether: nice story...I'm hoping to someday pass on the watch my mother-in-law purchases for me to either my son or son-in-law assuming he's not a tool.

I'm a fan of this Chronoswiss but I can't find an authorized dealer with one in stock....

I agree, they are super cool, but I think you would need to take some sort of class to be able to read them, lol.

DangIt, I can't find the watch I posted a while back, but it was suweet! Of course, being something like 68,000 Dollars, I will never get one. It was a man's watch. See through face and back, lots of gears. Dang It!

i'm a big fan of skagen watches. fairly inexpensive but amazing quality and extremely thin.

Is there a store near you where you can go look and fondle? I think watches, as something you are going to wear, need to be touched and tried on. You might discover something you never suspected.

I have a Jaeger-LeCoultre that I have worn everyday for six years and love. Another great swiss company to check out is IWC.

i once heard an architect say that anyone who would wear a watch with a rectangular face must have no clue about design. in other words, if the form of the watch face doesn't respect the circular motion of the hands, it's willfully irrational at best.

having said that, the japanese watches that wonderK linked are really cool. maybe digital watches shouldn't have the same rules.

Betta, you're a genius! Thats the guy I was looking for, not the watch, but the guy, and since the watch I want is similar, I will let your post speak for me.

Thank you.

japan is just so weird.

my dad repaired watches and clocks to relax. when he passed away he left me a nice rolex that i wear most days. there are more expensive rolexi out there but this one works like a charm and it was me da's so i'll hang on to it. might get me another one for special though...

my da also left me a beautiful pocket watch and an atmos clock that is super fine. he knew i love clocks/watches that don't need winding so i guess that is why i ended up with them. the pocket watch sits stopped in a case. i really can't be bothered winding those things.

am i the only guy that can't stand wearing a watch (or jewelry?)

I hate jewelry - when I wear a french cuffed shirt it is with silk cufflinks only. But, the watch straddles the line of jewelry - it has a function other than ornamentation or signifier of wealth, unlike a bracelet, necklace, earrings, or non-wedding ring.

I am young enough that from the point that I needed to tell the time i've had a cell phone. The cell phone is a tether at times, so I bought the watch for the times i'd rather be without my cell phone.

If your pants fit correctly, you don't need a belt but I suspect you wear one anyways.

i have always disliked hand watches. why would anyone want to cuff themselves to time? i do like the old whats-the-time-dear-watson pocket watches, and theres nothing like a dashing young man donning a monocle. of course i wear non of the above. if i want to know time, i got my mobile phone...if i don't want to be disturbed, i don't have to answer calls!

but granted, i also don't like mobile phones. i wish we can all go swinging back (if you're an evolutionist) or walking back (if you're a creationist) into the primary forest. or maybe a totally different universe where we made sense in silence.
