so I'm in a digital design studio this semester and we have to design a contemporary temple for the greek god apollo. i have no ideas despite doing some research on apollo! any ideas on where to get some inspiration?
im thinking music because apollo was also known as the god of music and im thinking of using repetitive elements in my design, but thats all i got right now! i need to be driven so i can my creative juices flowing...!
not only read up on apollo, but also the Greek Temples to Apollo, and how their temples related to their culture, to the deity, to their religion, and to their ceremonies; how do they relate to our times, society, culture...how do they relate to the site (if you have one)?! i would try not to focus too much on any specific architectural language, but focus on the spirit of the building, and its relation to the function...
thanks for the input. i appreciate it all. I am stuck as to where i derive my form from. our site is in greece and our prfo modeled it for us in viz so we have to think of the approach to this "contemporary temple" and simply express our creative spark through 3d viz. i was told i had a basic concept and that i should have fun with it and design something breath taking so i dunno...
perhaps it's a contemporary temple to a contemporary Apollo...who is the god of music and light and poetry etc., etc., to us, in our own time? maybe this project can be made relevant with that in mind.
r insane! hahahha!!!! good one!
mfrech thanx for opening up my eyes to that one! now i have something to think about and maybe design by tonight so i can start my animations! im glad u have me thinking about a contemporary apollo....in our time and yes thats kinda bold but we have so many apollos..LOL...
britney spears!
michael jackson
obama
all these people we worship and follow daily be it in the news (relevant) or in gossip columns! and who is to say it has to be a man or woman?
i was also thinking about the ideal of beauty in our eyes coz we have this standardized idea of what beauty is and since apollo was also in a sense a beauty symbol as a young man, i can translate that into architecture and do the opposite: design an ugly building and call it beautiful. what is beauty???
vado: the assignment cannot be changed. its a temple for apollo. stick with the program.
What's really interesting is the story of the German grad student who discovered the first Greek architectural drawings at an unfinished Temple of Apollo in Turkey. I'd find that story and run with it...
like mdler/garpike have mentioned this project shouldn't be about a physical manifestation of a temple - apollo in a contemporary ideology no longer exists, but is rather a keep sake of our sub conscious history. As such I see this project being about a process - what or who is apollo.

Careful. He's not the true god of songs.
I'd be more interested in studying a certain path of a certain celestial body that sustains our life. Hint hint.
listen to leonard cohen's tower of song one hundred times.
how's the sun tan, sheri25?
if your project sucks, you will be dragged out of your crit by a guy dressed like a clown

lol...i agree but i need to do some shit so i can show my prof some animations come friday!
make a kick ass parapet flashing detail and animate the water not leaking into the wall cavity
Wow. A contemporary temple to Apollo. I can't imagine a more relevant assignment. No wonder nobody takes us seriously.

or maybe it is apollo creed, after all!
why not a temple to hephaestus? he's much more complicated programmatically.
hahaha my eyes are fooling me, first glance i read the title of this thread "template for portfolio" haHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

If you design a temple for the Vince, I will make you my concumbine and give you many babies.
hahahahahahahaha I will. happy valentines day!
path. sun. hint.
vado is the god of music and poetry in my book
Please make sure it has a sacrificing altar and a garage out back to park my '69 Airstream Overlander. The Vince cannot do without these two things.
LOL
get back to serious thinking man! my canvas is blank!!!!
its a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll.
i concur! this is just a blank phase. it shall pass. will keep u posted on my progress!
No, thats okay.

Just make something that looks cool. You can rationalize it after the fact like the rest of us do.
