A competition in NYC, how many people have registered for this competition? Also, what are people's thoughts?
Program Statement
This ideas competition has as its dual goals an anchoring of this neighborhood with its rich history and an envisioning of its future edge condition. Competition entrants are asked to consider ways to ground this rapidly changing community as well as to reforge connections, both material and metaphoric, with the contemporary Manhattan urban fabric.
The principal element of the program is a Community Center/Galleries for the Seamen’s Church Institute, to be constructed on a new pier over the water. In addition, Competitors are encouraged to make interventions in open spaces throughout the remainder of the site.
The program asks for:
-Archive/Gallery
-Maritime Technology Exhibition Space
-Library (and supporting spaces)
-Educational Classrooms
-Cafe
-Sanctualry Space
-Public Meditation Garden
-Counseling Center
-Daycare Center
I think its do next week - I was going to do this one but I have a 2 xams to go - dont need the added headache. I think its one of the more interesting comps out there right now. In fact I was at a wedding at the Fulton Market a few months ago and love that forgotten little corner of the city. I like how the south end just abruptly abuts the financial district.
I was at a cool wedding at the old market a back in the summer. Cool space. I remember going there when I was little. It was a very crazy place. Nothing like that in Chicago. But a modern fish market needs more space and access to routs in and out of the city and it was time to move to the Bronx. Smae thing happend here to our produce markets and is set to level our meatpacking district. Fortuneatly i here Chitowns fish come by air within 24 hrs of being caught so proximity to oceans isnt nessessarily a nessessity anymore.
