Daniel - welcome to archinect, you'll find that we're more interesting then l-archl!

most of the urban discussions round here focus on well publicized projects/competitions, so do a search for the cornfields, governors island/park at the end of the world, or West-Side Yards (this one's on the news page) and you can see the other urban oriented folks. There is also landscape central to post shorter thoughts that don't need a new thread. I'd love to get your thoughts on this topic.

You can also post a 'meetup in memphis' thread and see who emerges from the ranks of the lurkers...

drop me a note if you need more insides into archinect culture.
(full disclosure, we were classmates at penn)

There was a good discussion a few weeks ago about the differences between urban planning and urban design. I see you refer to yourself as a planner and designer (and landscape architect to boot!)

Please dive right into the conversation here. We have higher respect for those who have a high comment-to-entry ratio.

Thanks Barry! It is good hearing from you again. Where are you these days?

the north woods;-) - I tend to keep certain personal items silent round here. DCA is spot on, get your post count up into the several dozens of comments to earn full blown nect-credibility to keep the chuck norris jokes at bay.

How about starting a 'tree/plant of the week' thread, you always knew the horticulture side of 'scape better then me.

A plant identification thread? I'd play, but I might only know the common name OR be able to tell a story about its presence in my mother's or grandfather's garden.

common names are good enough!

Yeah Barry, I don't know why I did that. I certainly didn't want you to post personal info on here. I'll shoot you an email to catch up.

Plants and Planning & Design are good topics and I'll search the threads for them. If I do not see anything, I'll start something.

I see myself as a generalist- that's where I practice best. That's where the L.A./Planner/Urban Designer title comes from. I view the built environment as being wrecked by specialists who can't look beyond their noses....or their limits of work.

Thanks,

Daniel

Speaking of plant I.D., can you post images on here or just links to images?

you can submit images for the image gallery but not directly from your harddrive into threads. once submitted, images will be reviewed and posted by the editorial staff.

OR
you can post an image using the code at the bottom if the image is already online somewhere.

if you're not in a hurry, once you've gotten an image into the image gallery, then you can post it in a thread. but i just use my flickr acct for immediate satisfaction.

I'll try to get something going soon. If someone has something they need I.D.-ed feel free to post images or a good description of the plant and I'll give it a shot. Maybe it should go in a new thread...I'll start one.

I am married to a Horticulturalist, too, BTW.
