i saw a show on pbs about that...there is a network of people from different areas of the world who collect trash from beaches and oceans. they've been able to trace the paths of some of these plastic containers...
according to one scientist on the show, within the eye of the vortex is where a massive concentration of plastic exists.
"when archaeologists dig us up, they will see a layer of plastic about an inch thick and they will refer to us as the plastic people"
