Just curious if anyone has any kind of idea what Gehry, Hadid, Piano and the rest of the list makes in a year?
I have no intention of placing my hopes for a starchitect salary in the future it is just pure curiosity....
well, let's see, FOG made $15 million on Stata, and may have to give it all back. So +15-15+costs=.. what? 'course he'll be able to reduce overhead by at least the salary of the PM in question, since he's gonna be soooo fired.
i think they are paid about $25/hour. there has been talk of a starchitect's union to improve these wages but it seems unlikely to happen any time soon
he's something like the UKs 500th richest person. Pretty weak if you think about it.
Then again John Portman cleared billions AND he got featured in Global Architecture but he made his money through development. Not to mention the fact that he went bankrupt at least once.
look, this thread is kinda fun, but what most of us really want to know is what the average firm principal makes.
based on the 2005 AIA Compensation Survey, average compensation (including bonues, profit sharing and other incentives) for a senior partner / principal varies quite a lot, based on firm size -- as follows:
<10 staff.........$119,400
10 to 19..........$163,300
20 to 49..........$205,100
50 to 99..........$233,400
100 to 249.......$229,400
250 or more.....$321,800
urbanist grow up. PM decision, please. Investigate than make assumptions? Nothing happens at FOGA without complete knowledge of at least one partner if not two.
BTW, I'm friends with a local architect who has his own practice and has about 3 other employees including an associate. He once mentioned that he and his associate pulled in about 300k combined per year between the two of them. And we are talking about very average architecture.
Unless he or she lives in New York, in which case $119,000 can seem like very little indeed. Not even enough to rent a five bedroom house in the Hamptons each summer.
stararchitect fees are usually separated out from the usual design fees. so if it's 10-15% of construction for the design fees it'll be another percentage on top of that for the stararchitect's personal involvement. so clients definitely have to pay a premium for having someone well known.

Starchitect salary?
Just curious if anyone has any kind of idea what Gehry, Hadid, Piano and the rest of the list makes in a year?

How would we ever know such information ?

i'm not tellin' you what i make.
work for the architect to the stars and i make a million dollars per second.
its a pretty sweet gig
architect to the stars that is
oh, of course by a million dollars per second i mean im unemployed
just kidding
I remember seeing Foster's yearly salary in the Guardian: £500,000
... actually this is three times more than Nicolas Sarkozy: £167,500
i think they are paid about $25/hour. there has been talk of a starchitect's union to improve these wages but it seems unlikely to happen any time soon
I just saw Sarkozy's motorcade drive by today by my firms office in DC.
i remember seeing something that showed Foster clear 7 mil - personally in 2005

pretty sure Portman didn't "clear billions"

this is what we mere mortals can aspire to.
wow, how are you supposed to live on only $119,400?
well you might have to marry another partner to get by.
Frau Hadid's office made a £295,000 operating profit.
and she pays herself a healthy £203,000 dividend above her salary.
Childs reportedly breaks a million, but just... that's just from anecdotal info
$119,400?
I know I could finance my get rich or die trying scheme

120k is chump change
ya know zivotinja, on these blogs there is a concept called snarkiness.. have a sense of humor.
wow, i know that all kinds of things happen at FOGA w/out partner's knowledge. you really think they look over every single detail/shop drawing?
lol at 120k being chump change. I'll take it.
BTW, I'm friends with a local architect who has his own practice and has about 3 other employees including an associate. He once mentioned that he and his associate pulled in about 300k combined per year between the two of them. And we are talking about very average architecture.
rule of thumb for firms used to be that is breakeven at $125,000 - $160,000 in revenue per professional... so 300K for two sounds about right.
Wow... now we know who has rich parents.
