why do you think not? or are you being slightly tongue-in-cheek? there seem to be many smaller firms and younger designers and non-profits who commit to (at least our typical understanding of) sustainable design & materials.
many firms in the city have sustainable projects (including those listed above & add vignoli), but there are very few who are 'specialized' in the entire world (and none that I know of in NYC).
to say that SOM is 'specialize' is to misunderstand the definition of 'specialized'. SOM will always be generalists and followers, never innovators.
thanks. i am definitely in search of places that make these issues one priority in their design process. not necessarily that they are on a mission to ONLY do this sort of work. but that is factors greatly in the decision making process.
one example of work that illustrates this is the Carabanchel 16 project by Foreign Office Architects:
some green specialists -
EDAW.. ok, landscape architects mostly, but still...
ARUP... engineering firm, but they do design firm
HOK.. tryin' to turn green.. possibly by holding their breath

no.
there are some big firms that are working on energy efficient towers -

maybe Pelli Clark Pelli too...

you should also check out O2 New York ,GreenHome NYC , and the New York Chapter of the USGBC
