I was told at the beginning of the semester that this was going down, and that the SCI-arc people might need some help from us USC people, but since then I have not heard much about it. Assuming it is still on and they can get it together, I will be there, as the potential for shenanigans will be high, and I'm always up for a good costume party.
So, I have the following remarks:
-The costume for this should be good. However, I don't think I'll come up with anything more bizarre than a SCI-arc person could. They will probably all fabricate themselves alien pods in their shop or something :oP
-Will tumbles come with me, in a SoCal-arch-school-unity sort of way? Will she bring mdler? Will he wear the thong?
-Anyone else going? SCI-arc people, what's the word on this?
-Perhaps myself and my fellow Trojans should just show up "300" style, half-naked and ready for battle....we'll finally try to put an end to all the trash-talking. :o)
the annual sci_arc halloween party (with the help of our friends at usc, ucla and woodbury) is indeed going down. the sci-arc student union is busily making preperations for what promises to be the best party ever.
Not to sound like a know-it-all, but I'm not so dumb, and here are my two cents:
WHO WOULD GO TO A HALLOWEEN PARTY AFTER THE DAY OF HALLOWEEN?
SHOULDN'T IT BE THE WEEKEND BEFORE HALLOWEEN? I'D WAGER THAT YOU'D GET A BETTER TURN OUT ON OCT. 26 OR 27.
p-boy, outside of your excessive use of capitals, I agree entirely with your line of thinking.
Of course I won't be attending, so please everyone prepping your amazingly clever and well-constructed archi-scary costumes for the party just tell me to butt out.
It is truely shitty timing, considering there's a huge fundraising event going on the evening of the 3rd, in the same space. Clean up of the Halloween ball has taken DAYS in my past experience. Admin and the alumni asc. are trying to get the date pushed to the 26 or 27th.
the primary reason that the party is currently scheduled for AFTER halloween is that unless we started planning the party in january, we were not going to be able to get entertainment worth having. i may be speaking alone. but last years bands...yeah not so much.
however, given that the powers that be are stepping in, the likely hood of still having the party on november 2nd is coming to an end. unless we have a parking lot party.
so, archinectors of los angeles....
we need bands/dj's for a saturday october 27th party:
three qualifications::
::they must be reasonably priced
::they can't suck
::they have to be available
Randar82, don't you get it? No one goes to the SCI-Arc Halloween ball for the bands. No one. Most don't go to dance, although I remember lots of people dancing what the DJ spun last year.
People go to the SCI-Arc Halloween ball to be seen, to get drunk, and to see whatever wackiness happens. Most people, though they may deny it, really have no other place to be the weekend before Halloween. Not everyone has a party to go to. However, if you do it after Halloween, or off campus anywhere, you'll lose interest and the promise of SCI-Arc wackiness which, let's face it, is only available in the freight depot.
Who cares about whatever crappy college band you can book the weekend AFTER Halloween??
either way there will be a good time. come for the band, stay for the scene. come for the scene, find that the band is actually pretty good.
and seriously... who's going to turn down a party, regardless of the day. think of it as the halloween after-party (after party's are always so much better anyway)
i look forward to seeing you at the party parametric.
that sounds like a wicked party to attend (again sucks to be me/so far away). But as Wonder K said earlier, it needs to be attended by the special 3-some and hopefully the garwondler will emerge
I saw an email earlier....something about black and white theme and russian deconstructivism....I swear! Also something about setting up and painting the weekend before. I'll help. I'm helpful like that.
**also we are looking for sponsors...so if you have a friend in los angeles who is a vodka rep or needs to market something to a young design oriented audience, send them my way**
oh goodness. Will anyone be coming in traditional Dada costume? I just had to show Dada films to the kidlets a few weeks ago and all the TA's were talking about how those guys obviously knew how to party.

hi randar82!
Good to hear from you. Please feel free to commandeer this thread for whatever party-related discourse you deem necessary.
Woo hoo!
so sci-arc is snubbing Calpoly, CalArts, and Otis to name a few? or is everybody in LA invited?
but CalPoly and CalArts aren't in LA, and Otis doesn't have architecture...
more is more. but for the record, CalArts snubbed us first
we can all party without fighting

randar.....so what day is it then? 27th or 2nd? Haven't found any bands, BTW. Sorry.
that sounds like a wicked party to attend (again sucks to be me/so far away). But as Wonder K said earlier, it needs to be attended by the special 3-some and hopefully the garwondler will emerge

OK, is this even happening? Because I know my contingent could use a party after mid-terms this week and next.
I would help spread the word....if I knew what the word was ;o)
