MTV Cribs? wait that's not a Mc Mansion

mad+dash

One of the first non-McMansions I've ever seen on MTV Cribs. I thought it was a surprise and fun to watch. He supposedly "built" it himself.

Mr. Dallas Austin, music producer for TLC, Madonna, Michael Jackson, etc., etc.

McFucktion = hi-end, owner build, min. 15,000 sq. ft, 12 staff, featured hgtv in the name of extreme, featured mtv in the name of crib, featured in architects' web sites in the name of work, piece of fucked paradigm of architecture often misleading to the word 'cool' among to be dazzled and naked women running around and pleased to be seen on mtv no matter what, specially in the jacuzzi, usually owned by people who make tons of money producing tv programs and great music that entertains vast majority of the world which also pays for lavish lifestyles of the great artists such as paris hilton and britney spears. eat it up.

..and zap myself unnecessarily.

"this guy takes a shower in his bathroom from where he can see everybody but no one sees him unless they are right there in the shower."

another hi-end detail architect likes to talk about in his web site's text section after the image #7.

Of course I'd change the whole decor inside...

plus some art of the day (1984.08.05) (2006.08.05)

...but I'd keep the outside just the way it is. I love big pools with waterfalls.

it's a start to something interesitng architecturally.

i am trying to make the world a better place by attacking these type of projects so we don't as humans in america and elsewhere go for the ultra excessive and in order to remain in the ultra excessive mod, we don't declare wars and shit, to keep our taxing money flowing in, from less fortunate territories within and overseas. a little idealist, but necessary.
i don't find this architecturally interesting. it is more interesting if you look at it as a condition.

i wonder if mr. austin is producing any save the world green music projects.

Aug 5, 07 5:12 pm  ·

It's because their shit is so easily reproduced, and hence so much more individually affordable.

Whereas only those that can't really afford housing live in affordable housing.

Not a McMansion, but it does look like a McDonalds without the yellow pinstripes. The only truth is that the house was built from the ground up...and should be ground-up and used as filler in McDonalds, patties.
I do commend this gentleman for having a bit more taste than the rest of the Cribs I've seen, however.

the house is situated beautifully on the property. there are some really fun features in the house too. it definitely has some typical cheesy bling, and it's not something i would feature on archinect as an example of groundbreaking architecture, but i think it's relatively very tasteful compared to most of the houses that are features on shows like cribs, and i commend him for building something that celebrates his talent and success. i like his musical inspiration as well ;)

to avoid being attacked because of his excessiveness...i suggest he throw a couple of million bucks to the katrina disaster fund and get his pic at the site unloading some construction materials...

Paulina Rubio also had a non McMansion. She was dating Richardo Bofill's son(?) at the time and showed this beautiful cement factory turned house near Barccelona. She's wearing hot pants and eating chicken and generally prancing around this absolutely gorgeous house that made me want to curl up into a little ball and cry.

compared to most of the shit that gets built in this country especially by the tasteless nouveau riche, its a damn fine house.

That was Paulina Rubio that lives in the old cement factory? That really is a nice house, I mean really, not in props-for-trying sense like UFO boy's place posted above.

Yeah,

Actually this thread has been good. I have been wondering about who designed the cement factory since I saw it in a in interiors book about 20 years ago. This thread prompted the memory and now I have that question resolved. One down, several million to go.

Follow this link to see it - converted in 1975. Located in Sant Just Desvern, Barcelona. Here are some more images. This is one of the buildings that inspired me into architecture as a younger lad.

that cement factory is pretty nice. if i'm not careful i might find some redeeming value in the work of bofill (who i've always thought was just about the worst architect of whom i am aware).

Hi Steven,

Some of his stuff is pretty horrendous - the earlier stuff from the 70's is more interesting than the more modern, banal, throwaway crap.
