Although, the patio/beer garden at Lorely gets full pretty quickly after work, especially later in the week. Monday - Wednesday would be excellent or early afternoon Saturday/Sunday.
Good to hear, LiG. Who's your critic, if I may ask?
Not to be negative if you end up applying to Columbia for next year, but I found the summer program to be much better than the MArch program. It's totally different and not an accurate trial of what a normal semester is like at the GSAPP. Granted, I got sick with Lyme Disease, which affected my outlook on the MArch program, but I decided against going back. Just my two cents.
I'd love to come too. I haven't made it to either of those places yet! I'm feeling pretty relieved. I managed to find an apartment on St. Marks at Ave A next to Tompkins square.
Bradley Horn is my critic... He's a Cooper Union alum, and now teaches at Columbia, City College, and Pratt. He's so theoretical and abstract that it's scary, but he is also very approachable, has a good sense of humor, and has a pretty good clue about how buildings get put together in "real life". All-around good guy, and he and I seem to have a pretty good chemistry.
Yeah, I've gotten the sense that the summer program is a bit different than the regular M.Arch. program at GSAPP... That was one of the main things I was curious to look into when I got here. While I've greatly enjoyed the summer program, I'm now less certain that Columbia would be a good fit for me in terms of grad school. Cornell is still strong in my book, and I've been growing more interested in Yale lately as well... But that's a topic for another discussion. If my new job goes well enough, I might even be inclined to postpone grad school for another year or two.
everyone has to wear their architecture sucks t?
if we hit good world and it's nice out we can say that we grab the table outside in back and congregate there......if its not nice out we grab the table right next to the entry. if those are already taken we can wait near to the appropriate table until we get critical mass and then muscle our way in.
hey everyone, just moved to the city last week. id love to meet some of you guys, as i honestly don't know anyone here yet. could anyone tell me where good world is located?
futureboy..how bout you wear your shirt and everyone finds you...
althought that'd mean you'd have to be on time. btw i think i met
your sister at good world a couple weeks ago...almost as passionate
about architecture as you are.
hahahah....yes. i vaguely remember that discussion lars. we did meet your sister, futureboy, and the guy she was with too (boyfriend? i don't recall in my semi-drunken state)...anyway, our chat turned into a somewhat heated disagreement, but all ended well.
I think the problem you run into having it on a Friday is that Goodworld can get packed later in the week. But August can be pretty slow in New York. Which is good for all us poor non-Hamptons goers.
I'll second the 2 meet-ups idea. Keep this Wed. and add a meet up Friday the 10th or 17th?
AP and larlarson....yes you did meet my sis...and yes, she does tend to get heated in her arguments. way more so than me. i can definitely see about getting her out and i can plan on wearing my architecture sucks tee. last time i wore it to work was my last day at PPA.
i'll be on time on wed. i don't have any other plans that night (at least not that i can think of right now).
New York Meetup #2
Anyone up for an end of the summer meetup?
yes, absolutely. i vote this one should be at Good World (Chinatown) or Lorely (Lower East Side).
i'm down for whenever...except for this next weekend...
and AP good world has become my new neighborhood bar..was just
there last night.
those are both great suggestions AP, but i have to agree with larslarson that this weekend would not work.
Good World and Lorely are definitely good spots. I'll all for it!
Although, the patio/beer garden at Lorely gets full pretty quickly after work, especially later in the week. Monday - Wednesday would be excellent or early afternoon Saturday/Sunday.
bump
i'm in NYC between the 1st and 4th.
seeing yankees on friday though. ( i swear my life isn't ALL baseball...sometimes i design stuff)
I can probably make it depending.. need to find a new apt by sept 1st so that's my only time consumer (you know, besides work)
so, wednesday august 1 at good world?
^ Is that date definite? I might come through.
sounds good to me
This weekend is bad for me as well (last weekend to work on final project for Columbia), but I'm in otherwise.
Sorry I'll miss the meet up. Right now I'm in the process of moving away from New York to Detroit.
Oh, and how's Columbia, LiG? Did you get in to Danielle's studio?
Columbia is intense as hell, but fun. Danielle Smoller isn't teaching a studio this year, but my critic has been very good.

*Sorry for the hijack!*
What time is the meetup?
I'd love to come too. I haven't made it to either of those places yet! I'm feeling pretty relieved. I managed to find an apartment on St. Marks at Ave A next to Tompkins square.

sorry to return this thread back to the meetup,
but does anyone oppose to Wednesday Aug 1 at Good World -
8ish?
i'm game. has anyone heard if danny willis is in town yet?
also, any chance of getting oana out this time?
and any suggestions for helping people identify others?
i can promise to wear bright red and giant headphones.
It won't be hard, after all don't all NY architect's look like this:
You totally snagged that from the New York Times magazine. How much were those pants 2,950$?
everyone has to wear their architecture sucks t?

sorry, just saw you had linked it earlier AP

August 1st won't work for me, as I'm in the middle of wrapping up my final project at GSAPP. Sometime next week would be much better.
i'm fine to either put it off a week or have 2 meet-ups...
my wife and i want to visit NY soon, if you guys do it closer to a weekend (Friday) I would love to try to archinect while there.

i'm game for 2 meetups. friday nights become difficult to accommodate a group. i vote for the 17th on the second one.
ditto. 1st and 17th work.
I think that AP is coming to visit C-bridge on the 17th... so that wouldn't work for me. The 10th, I think could.
yes. this is true. the 17th is Cambridge weekend.
either way, we're still on for Wednesday, right? NY Meetup #2a.
roll call?
athenaeum - landscape architect. HERE.
(i'll be a little late though. i have dj'ing class until 8.)
AP and larlarson....yes you did meet my sis...and yes, she does tend to get heated in her arguments. way more so than me. i can definitely see about getting her out and i can plan on wearing my architecture sucks tee. last time i wore it to work was my last day at PPA.

i can be there on wednesday most likely.
i'm in Wed.
I'll be there with my drinking pants on
so, i have my architecture sucks t on today...it's the old blue one.
i'll be there at 8, but will probably have to take off around 9.
it's only 2:30, we haven't even started drinking yet, and nudity has entered the picture........................
woops, thought you said 'will have to take IT off around 9'
dirty me.
i was a bit confused there...thought maybe you weren't sharing with the group...
the weather is nice...maybe whoever gets there first can try to snag some space in the garden (futureboy?)....
i'll do what i can.
awesome.
i loves me some archintectors
next time in brooklyn? you know you want to.
