I'm partial to Thallon as well, since we used it in school. I still keep my copy at hand for reference. I agree with Janosh about the quake issues for California.
I'd also look for one of Joe Lstiburek's guides (whichever one is appropriate for the part of the state you are in) for moisture and energy issues, and good details on those fronts.

Best wood construction book
I'm looking for a book on wood framing and construction as a companion for residential work in California.
It shoud include tables for reference and current details.
Any suggestions?
