I've had a Samsung for 2.5 years and it's lovely.

I've been using a 17" Dell at work for over a year and a 19" Dell at home since August, and I love them both.

Does Dell actually make their monitors or are they outsourced? I think I heard they were Samsung.

I have a 20" dell, I'm very satisfied with the quality for the money. If you have the cash, definately get something better, it will be worth it.

I think, without checking, that some of the big dell monitors are the same panel as the apple cinema displays, but with firewire and usb and vga added.

I might be making things up though.

You guys are all crazy nuts - the best LCD on the market is made by Apple - and you can use on your beige boxes too !

Yup, they are the same as far as I know too. Not many companies actually 'make' their screens. Apple certainly doesn't!

I've got a 24", 20" and 17" laptop and love them all.

LG and Samsung are the largest, I believe.

Make sure you get the Dell Ultrasharp, its digital vs. their analog option.

Remember just a few short years ago, Korean electronics were second rate? Now they are awesome. LG, Samsung, they make really great stuff now. And Hyundais have gotten really good too. I rented a Sonata once (went for economy, they bumped me up). It was a seriously nice car.

Apple LCD's = Samsung LCD + $1000

I love apple and I use there computers exclusively, but I would never spend that kind of loot on a monitor when you can get the same damn thing for much cheaper.

The new Dell 22" widescreen is a great mix of large size and low cost ($300). Not a pro monitor for color-sensitive work from what I've read, although it's pretty great for me.

that does look nice, but it's been pointed out to me that it is not an Ultrasharp monitor. Probably fine for cad work, but not the best for photoshop.

I'd find a deal on the 24". They can be had for $600-700 if you keep your eyes open for coupons. I paid $1300 for mine when it first came out and I still think I got a good deal.
