good project management book...?

mmeow12

can someone please recommend a good book (or other sources) that might talk me through the basics (with some detail) on project management in the US?

im basically interested in a book that'll go through applying for writting a programme, developing a brief, planning permission, whatever regulations and getting it built?

- not really for residential construction; rather for a small school in an urban location.

thankyou!

Take a look at Rita Mulcahy's books. Her book is a preparation guide to the PMP certification test. It's a generic Project management book.

There are two competing bodies in the world of (construction and broader) Project Management:

They both produce a Body of Knowledge (BoK)
The Association for Project Management (UK): APMBoK

The Project Management Institute (US): PMIBoK

The US approach is execution focused, i.e. you have already got a plan, and the BoK tells you how to execute it.

The UK approach starts a bit nearer the source with strategy and design management before hitting the same ground as the US version.

They are (both) surprisingly informative.

The First Time Manager

is a good book dealing with the human side of project management, not to mention issues of office etiquette in general.
