I am currently seeking for work in new york. I started researching on websites such as well here..archinect, craiglist, aia, new-york architect etc.
Anyone have any more recommendations on where else to look for job listing esp for New york area? I am looking to start anytime in January. thx
MollyB - you've pretty much got it covered with those resources - unless you're looking for something WAY out of the mainstream, that's where most employers will post their available jobs.
Check the website of your local AIA chapter. Some of them have their own job listings.
Also, check the websites of the firms themselves. Most AIA chapter websites have a section that has links to all the firm websites in the chapter. When doing a job search, I've often gone down the list from A to Z and looked at their sites. If the firm does work that I find interesting, I send them a letter and resume regardless of whether or not they're actually listing open positions. Most of my more recent jobs were landed that way, and as far as I know, none of the firms that hired me were actually advertizing open positions at the time.
another thing is I am canadian citizen so I would need to get a working permit to work there. Do you think this will cause lots of firms to not bother with the process?
You should be able to get a TN visa easily and most firms are willing to do that because all they have to do is to give you an offer letter. With your own qualifications proof and resume... etc you would show it to immigration dept to get approval for your visa. check out government links regarding NAFTA agreement.
