then again, I used korean in a movie, a long, long time ago.

its one of the most modern language, in scientific terms (most scientifically developed languages, that is), and it was invented to allow poor farmers who couldnt read/learn the complex chinese language. the symbols are derived from the shape that the vocal muscles or throat makes when pronouncing the letter. and it is one of the most simple languages in terms of grammar and rules. so perhaps thats why its used by aliens?

Maybe Koreans are aliens. That would explain their ability to magically produce more than any human in studio.

I don't know why, and I hate to stereotype people, but why do asian kids have such super-human work ethics? I think i've met 1 asian kid who didn't fit the stereotype, but every one i come across in arch. school designs like any moment may be their last.

The Koreans in my school are all amazing. I wouldn't take that as a bad stereotype haha. THey are incredible. When I was working in JApan this summer, the average recent grad was, in the opinion of us American interns, a much more compitant designer than the average American. They were very impressive.

this reminds me of the movie "Crazy People".

There was an advertisement they created within the movie by SONY (electronics). in which: the reason that the japanese were so much better at electronics than caucasians was because they were "too damn tall" and thus had a disadvantage when looking at small electronics parts. anyway, a good movie you guys should check it out. (plot: insane asylum running a tv ad agency.)

I dont know. i think the dutch are pretty hard core as well. although i heard working for sejima (SAANA) is the end of your life outside of architecture studio.

The Koreans, through use of simple alphabet and numerical systems have almost zero dyslexia and dyscalculia.

It's the bastard nature of English with anomalies like eleven and twelve (did you ever count to twenty-twelve, twenty-thirteen?) and the overpopulation of homonyms and homographs in our complex tongue that makes being an english speaker just harder. Sometimes I struggle to say good morning. It's not because I'm slack, it's just hard work. I think the Koreans also retain perfect-pitch, a skill we are all born with but lose through underuse, as what would be homonyms in their spoken language are identified by the tone.

And yes, the Dutch are tall.

I have to say, the singaporeans have a leg up on the Koreans....in my school, they were INSANE...one kid, an exchange student for the year...he slept, like, 3 hours a night, destroyed the keyboards of several computers in the cluster, and could crank out a 3-D model of an entire project in one night of crazy ass clicking....it was mesmerizing to watch....

As for breaking all stereotypes, I be an asian, and I be DAMN slow....

ASCI, ASCII smatsci... whatever! as an fogey over 30, I learned basic in 1982 on the original ibm pc with 32Kb of ram and no harddrive- and I still get confused by computer jargon.

I always thought the old korean writing looked more alien - before the dots were replaced by the dashes. "Spaghetti" explained the consonants very well in that it is very scientific. The vowels, though are a little different and are comprised of only 3 elements - the horizontal line representing Land or Earth, the vertical line representing Man and the dot representing the Sky.

doesnt mean they are smarter tho. the reason they developed the language was for the simpletons (farmers and poor folk). the academics learned chinese. and i am not sure if it relates to how hard they work. unless, since the language is easier, they can put more mental effort into model building...

on another note, koreans drink a LOT

ASCII code is still in use 40 years later; hard to believe but it's one of those technologies that did not die after the windows and mac introduction. Most computers still use it to represent text which makes it possible to transfer data from one computer to another.

when i was a kid, i played simple ASCII games on my dad's TRS-80. picture a football game with Xs and Os cruising around the screen. the friggin files loaded from a cassette via a simple external tape deck. a mere 25 years and we've got madden '07.
