WOXY is dead. Long live WOXY

WonderK

Award winning radio station is about to kick the bucket after 30 years of playing indie rock and alternative:

Sucks. One of the craziest days of the crazy years I spent in Oxford, Ohio involved a barbecue at WOXY, a band named Atari Teenage Riot, and a tongue paralyzing does of Kava Kava.

Corporate radio sucks.

I know many of you would be skeptical, but I stopped listening to WOXY and started listening to Minnesota Public Radio's The Current. No commercials, and more personal DJ's. They have the best assortment of indie-rock, indie-hip hop, local gems, contemporary and old school wonders! Give it a shot, if you like WOXY you'll probably find this station a sufficient replacement

P.S. I'd recomend listening after 10AM ET unless you are a fan of folk and such.

Here's today's playlist:

Check out www.kexp.org

It's an indie rock (as well as other genres) independent station based in Seattle. They stream live over the 'net.

dubK, i saw that yesterday and am deeply distraught... i listen to WOXY all day in the office... i guess that i'll have to try the few suggestions above (thanks SBD)... i've tried KEXP before, but didn't like it as much as WOXY...

OK, listen here, SBD,

You pimp that station all the time, and I'm not saying it's bad, I've heard it and it's good, but WOXY was an INSTITUTION and has been for 30 years! They didn't have commercials, either, which is one of the reasons they are going off the air. They had very personal DJs too! This is not a competition. Certainly any station that plays independent music is worthy of attention and MN is lucky that they can devote public radio to it (which hopefully is a business model that won't fail any time soon, unless we get another one of those forwards....)

Anyway, my point was WOXY is dying, and that's sad, and I thought that people might want to know.

PS. Don't lie, you didn't "stop" listening to WOXY, you never did.
