Earthquakes and Music

The following words are from Dag Yngvesson, a friend and filmmaker. It's a worthy cause - your donation will not only help rebuild in Indonesia, but it will also be rewarded with a great new addition to your legal music collection.

I have now been in Indonesia for almost a month, part of which was spent
filming and also helping out with relief from the May 27th earthquake in
Yogyakarta. Unbelievably, since we've been here, there have been at least
five more fairly large earthquakes in various parts of Indonesia, one of
them resulting in a Tsunami that killed 700 people on the south coast of
Java and destroyed numerous villages. With resources stretched thin, ISI,
the acclaimed arts institute in Yogyakarta where we often record music and
where Diyah teaches, is in the same devastated condition it's been in since
the first earthquake. We have been trying our best to help them raise money,
and are very happy to have given them almost a thousand dollars so far from
the cd Indonesia Postmodern that we put out in June, but as you can see in
these photos we took,

much more is needed. In an effort to save the school from closing
completely, students will be received in September, with tents taking the
place of classrooms and dorms. Hopefully larger
grants will eventually pay for the demolition and reconstruction of the
destroyed buildings, but
smaller amounts which can replace instruments, computers (new, modern, and
much needed equipment from recent grants was all destroyed in the
earthquake), and other equipment are essential to keeping the school, and
the advancement and progression of Indonesian music and arts functioning. If
you haven't gotten this yet, or would like to help but haven't done so
yet, our cd Indonesia Postmodern is available for $13 dollars here:

100% of the proceeds will be put toward rebuilding and buying equipment for
the music and performing arts departments at ISI Yogyakarta- listening to
the cd will hopefully lead to a realization that it is worth helping these
varied Indonesian traditions and genres stay alive and continue to be
developed...

So far we've succeeded in getting it on several public radio shows across
the states, including KCRW and KPFK in LA, raising awareness of both
Indonesian music and the situation in Yogyakarta. Here is a link with more
information about the earthquake and cd, as well as account numbers for
larger donations:
