The extender tubes always extend when you don't want them to! Then as you push them back together you hear that unmistakable crunching sound as your drawings get caught in the crossfire.
It opens length-wise so you can pick your drawings out of it without the annoyance of reaching in the end to unwind them when they stick against the sides.
The large version has a self-adjusting strap not buckles. It flexes like a bow and springs back against the side, out of the way when you're not using it.
no problem. i love the way it opens. it was annoying as all hell to try and get the drawings out of the tube sometimes. i haven't even used it in years. i use it now as storage for drawings.
For those of you in NY, I'll be showing it at the NY Design Meetup on Friday.
For those interested in having one, go to www.drawingpod.com and enter your contact info in the contact page. I'll let you know when you can order one. (put "Archinect" among the places you buy your supplies).
In the meantime, leave a comment on mocoloco so that people know what architects think of a case designed for them.
are you trying to get support based on someone else's name?
a really strange coincidence- I mean, who calls themselves "Tumbleweed"? (no offense)- let-alone 2 tumbles?
hmmm....*WhatToDo*
did you read the forum before you registered, I mean tumbleweed posts on almost every thread- you would have seen her name (no?)
if you look at tumbleweed's stats he joined in 2006...
in any case i did find it confusing that the company was based in
cambridge since i knew ...tumbleweed... was in LA
'tumbleweed' it may be a good business decision to change
your name just so you don't draw ire for copying another person's
name..even if you were first.
Will change the name as soon as I think of a new one that nobody's using ;-).
...tumbleweed... I appreciate the warning.
Larlarson - the hinge is elastomer. It's co-extruded with the shell and color matched, so when it's closed you might not notice it.
An the top cap flips open. That's how you insert the drawings.
tumbleweed the tube designer changed his name to fromconcentrate and it automatically reverted all of his prior posts to show the screen name fromconcentrate...effectively eliminating all traces of his former identity.
is that really what happened?
i might change my name to something else...maybe mightybig, for those especially pesky posts that require a stronger name, and then change it back to my normal, soft spoken new englander self.
truth be told though, i'm from jersey. so dont f--k with me.
that being said:
i do wish that ...tumbleweed...and tumbleweed settled this in a more dramatic fashion. all of this polite discourse has me off my feed.
fromconcentrate, i really like that tube. good clean design, very functional as to things that have bugged me about tubes for a while.
i noticed your website and the photographs of the product also say 'from concentrate'- so hopefully that name was always there [don't tell us you changed your website and protypes to fit the new name!]
aml - I'm not that quick.
from concentrate is the name of the company.
The image up above is a rendering, but there are pictures(not renderings on the site).
For those of you in NY, I'll be there for ICFF. etc. and will be showing the Drawing Pod at the NY Design Meetup on Friday night. If you make it come up and say 'Hi'.
mightylittle - if it'll make you feel better, ...tumbleweed... did spill my OJ.
in the corner on my right, disgruntled about the presumed theft of her name: ...tumbleweed...
and in the corner on my left, drafting tube designer and (apparently) amenable guy: fromconcentrate
alright folks the first blood (so to speak) has been spilled. fromconcentrate, it's up to you now to find an image that speaks in a pejorative fashion about ...tumbleweed...'s screen name. might i suggest a burning bush perhaps?
drafting tubes
What's your favorite drafting tube / art tube?
Why that one?
Aren't plotter paper rolls kind of narrow?
Anyone have plastic tubes?
Okay, cute, but seriously
Which do you prefer?
Alvin Ice Tube, Extender, Chartpak telescope, MHWay, cardboard mailing tube?
If you don't really have a preference, but own a one, which do you own?
own an ice tube
i prefer the tube top
ether, you look very dreamy in that tube top...congratulations!
ice. besides, it's tall, neon green, and the hipsters on BART think I roll with a 3 foot water-b0n&.
I use the ice as well, holds everything and is pretty tough!
The extender tubes always extend when you don't want them to! Then as you push them back together you hear that unmistakable crunching sound as your drawings get caught in the crossfire.
My favorite tube.
although ether's is pretty nice too...
my grub showed me the coolest one today, made from hand-rolled aluminium, nice and crude too. Its gorgeous send a pic in the morning
Hey guys,
Excuse the plug, but check it out!
I've been working on a "tube" called the Drawing Pod. It's on Mocoloco in the Design Blogfest Competition.
It opens length-wise so you can pick your drawings out of it without the annoyance of reaching in the end to unwind them when they stick against the sides.
The large version has a self-adjusting strap not buckles. It flexes like a bow and springs back against the side, out of the way when you're not using it.
i have a chart pak telescoping (from 3' - 6'!!!).
tumbleweed, that tube is dope!!!
you got my vote....
though that waffle keyboard maker was pretty sweet!- haha
Thanks Cris and WhatToDo.
Glad you like it.
no problem. i love the way it opens. it was annoying as all hell to try and get the drawings out of the tube sometimes. i haven't even used it in years. i use it now as storage for drawings.
Tumbles, can I get a discount when you're tube goes into production? Sweetest thing I've seen in a while. And in two sizes!

thanks for the feedback.
wait, did you design it ...tumbleweed...?
if not...there is an option to change my vote...and I will
waffle keyboard maker here I come, lol
ok, who are you tumblweeed and why are you stealing ...tumbleweed...'s name?
I designed it.
No dots in my name. I've got no baggage here, check my stats(6 comments). Looks like the guy with the complaints is ...tumbleweed...
but I'm just reading the posts, I don't know what the beef is an don't have anything against him.
WhatToDo...Vote your conscience.
Stealing the name?
I just signed up last year and typed in tumbleweed as my username.
(I've used it elsewhere)
i'm confused.
...tumbleweed... You've been here a while, so if it's confusing people I'd be happy to change it.
just let me know.
well, I actually like the design...
...but I loath imposters...
are you trying to get support based on someone else's name?
a really strange coincidence- I mean, who calls themselves "Tumbleweed"? (no offense)- let-alone 2 tumbles?
hmmm....*WhatToDo*
did you read the forum before you registered, I mean tumbleweed posts on almost every thread- you would have seen her name (no?)
this is odd.
Blasphemy! I'm so confused. Again.
Can I change my vote too?
Or did Tumbles... step on Tumbleweed since she used to be KK?
oh no...now a whole new layer of confusion.
I don't know who this guy is either, but in his defense, the thread was started 03/20/06. So I think he is the older, but Tumbles is more known.
Has this ever happened before?
And I like the tube too, but I don't need one, I don't think I ever used one.
if you look at tumbleweed's stats he joined in 2006...

Uh, guys...
I joined Mar 20, 2006
...tumbleweed... joined in Feb. 2007
So, no I didn't see his posts when I joined.
I'll still buy the tube when available.
i like the tube as well..smart design.
i'm interested in the hinge..cause i think that part would be
critical...the end caps too if they can be removed as well.
Will change the name as soon as I think of a new one that nobody's using ;-).
...tumbleweed... I appreciate the warning.
Larlarson - the hinge is elastomer. It's co-extruded with the shell and color matched, so when it's closed you might not notice it.

see tumbleweed..who wants to be associated with a known liar...
btw ...tumbleweed... is a woman
there you go.
...tumbleweed... it's all yours.
all cleared up now?
good.
Likewise.
the dots are a horizon line, right?
wait a minute here.
tumbleweed the tube designer changed his name to fromconcentrate and it automatically reverted all of his prior posts to show the screen name fromconcentrate...effectively eliminating all traces of his former identity.

WHY NO CAGE MATCH?!?!
i actually think fromconcentrate is a better name than tumbleweed.
or how about this:
form_concentrate (yes, i meant to transpose the o and r)
mightylittle, yeah, when you change your name it automatically updates it all across the board.
and ha ha ha, yeah, they were much too civil!
oh, I get it cris, fORm- ha ha...that is good.
yeah, I pictured ...tumble ripping off an earring with one hand and a shoe with the other.
All this please and thank you ….terribly anti-climactic.
mightyLITTLE....you should print this thread and take it to your therapist- I think you just had a breakthrough.
fromconcentrate, i really like that tube. good clean design, very functional as to things that have bugged me about tubes for a while.

that bitch!
grudge match.
a virtual fight in images is in the works...
in the corner on my right, disgruntled about the presumed theft of her name: ...tumbleweed...
and in the corner on my left, drafting tube designer and (apparently) amenable guy: fromconcentrate
alright folks the first blood (so to speak) has been spilled. fromconcentrate, it's up to you now to find an image that speaks in a pejorative fashion about ...tumbleweed...'s screen name. might i suggest a burning bush perhaps?
images only, and keep it clean folks.
DING DING DING!
where do we buy?
ahahahaha, lookin' forward to the "pic fight."
