Quondam's 10th Anniversary

Here's the second image online at Quondam - A Virtual Museum of Architecture 21 November 1996.

Very cool image, quondam, though your text description makes my head hurt!

It (the text, not your museum rendering) reminds me of those pictures on cereal boxes: a table set for a healthy breakfast including the cereal box on which you are seeing the picture. How did they get the picture FOR the cereal box when they first needed the same picture ON the cereal box first?!?

Anyway, looking forward to seeing more of Quondam's "history".

liberty bell, I see you understand completely. Very nice memory you have there, too.

K.F. Schinkel, Schauspielhaus, Berlin, 1819-21.
A view in perspective of the stage (from the auditorium) as decorated for the dedication of the building

Also see Arnell and Bickford, James Stirling: Buildings and Projects, bottom drawing, p. 327.

I guess the stage is a good place for reenactment. Or maybe the Schauspielhaus asked for a good marketing tool.

Does anyone know or remember the meaning of quaestio abstrusa?

Also, this is interesting...

This is about the forthcoming anniversary of a museum of architecture that doesn't really exist -- www.quondam.com

quaestio abstrusa = 'search for the concealed' = puzzle (at least according to The New College Latin & English Dictionary)

Date: 2001.05.08

QUAESTIO ABSTRUSA 001, the first in an ongoing series of compact disc publications by Quondam, will be available for purchase mid-May 2001.

QUAESTIO ABSTRUSA 001 comprises over 550 pages from the over 3500 webpages published online at Quondam from 21 November 1996 through 21 June 2000. Many of the pages have not been seen publicly since 1997, and, as a whole, the pages reenact Quondam's first years of cyber existence. Additionally, 511 new images derived from Quondam's digital and CAD archive act as simultext throughout the publication.

The Latin for puzzle is QUAESTIO ABSTRUSA.

=====

The 511 main pages with simultext of Quaestio Abstrusa 001 will be re-published at Quondam in a day or two.

In the spirit of equinox [^], all the negative things written by others about Quondam will be collected and ultimately displayed at the museum. Quasi hate mail goes all the way back to 1997. The exhibit will be entitled either "The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same" or "Letters From Pussies Galore".

Quondam - A Virtual Museum of Architecture is proud that it began in the basement of a rowhome in the Philadelphia neighborhood of Olney. Proud because the virtual realm of the Internet meant that real location didn't really matter because a virtual location can be just about anywhere on the planet and a little beyond even. Quondam moved out of the basement and into the former back bedroom upstairs September 1998, and the basement is now a sometimes artwork space and place of much "museumpeace" storage.

In honor of Quondam's 10th anniversary
