If our goal in this competition was to create a beautful new t-shirt to add to our existing collection, then we have most definitely failed. Out of the 138 entries that we received our team of 8 editors have narrowed down the surprisingly bad submissions into a group of 8 finalists (we were planning on 5 but there were some ties).... so go ahead and vote for your favorite. It's kind of like the last presidential election but with less tragic results.
image 1: wack imitation of ryan mcguinness. irrelevant/not fancy enough.
image 2: nice funny quotes but not fancy enough. sorry.
image 3: completely irrelevant. not even cool. far from fancy.
image 4: conceptually relevant but not fancy enough.
image 5: graphic design masturbation.
image 6: best design by far. too much like sim city graphics though, needs to be more fancy.
image 7: hurts my soul. ronchamp in a flower pot. how cute.
image 8: wack
i can't believe there weren't better entries than these. either that, or i can't believe there weren't better judges than there were. you could have taken any single image of per's, slapped it on the front of a t-shirt with ANY of the amazing quotes from his website and it would have been awesome. i don't think anybody wanted this t-shirt to look like it came from hot topic or urban outfitters. blah.
Agreed... all Urban outfitters wanabees. MtVland clothing shop exploiting worthwhile culture for those who lack the chutzpa to find it themselves. Originality and thought were obviously not requisites for this contest.
only 3 colors were allowed and it's going to be silkscreened, (i'm assuming) so you can't make a shirt like abra's. who broke this thread? the formating got all weird.
come on, reducing the image to three colors would only make it fancier! maybe the background is black and white and the letters stay pink...
i'm not only in favor of abra's design, i'm just in favor of the entries having SOMETHING to do with the amazing spirit of the 'fancy graphics' thread. none of the shirts have anything of its odd irresistability. if people are open to a second round, i would enter.
i have a feeling that many of the designs that mwad reports as "surprisingly bad" were actually ridiculously awesome. i say post all of the entries, who needs a panel of judges when we have the most democratic of all forums right here? voting open until friday. let's do it.
ok ignore the formatting thing. I think everyone's expectations may have been a little too high for this shirt... relax, no one's going to die because of these designs.
but at the same time nobody will be happy either, except maybe the judges and the selected finalists. but 16 is kind of a small run for silk-screening, you're each going to end up paying like $100 for your shirt.
don't complain to me, I just entered the contest, I didn't set it up. I can say I did put some time into my design and set it up so it would be easy to print, and hopefully look nice on a shirt.
well you failed. unless your design is the 3dh "Hi" shirt, which didn't fail, it gets more like a b-. i'm sure there's some fancy a+ action among the entries.
I just copied in the news. I haven't seen any of the entries, but if you goto the comments for that news thread you can see some of the rejects. They are pretty hilarious and bad.
seriously, though, now that i think about it... we should have just had per design the shirt. it's his thread. they're his graphics. only he can harness the power of 3dh in such a way that the t-shirt graphic would warm our hearts, as have his words for so, so long now. whether it was over the top or completely understated, it would have been awesome.
apparently there is massive bias in the architecture community for the rampant sensuality of the edwardian script and squishy pinks hearts of my design that was a true evocation of the fancy graphics "lovers"...the cool polish and restrained intellectualism of the eight finalist will fade but my design is timeless in both the sense of romantic shakespearean sonnets and care bears. the sublte blending of the monotone color scheme furthers the atmospheric effect of having a true grasp this new teknology and technique. it is obvious that some donut understand the lyric of these physics...of all the design now seen only mine if fit for architectural digest magazine.
If there is interest, i am willing to make this available for purchase.
okay, i know i'm late and i am not even really putting in much effort (read: 7 minutes), but this is what i want to see more of. i'll probably end up making more just cuz i can. and what?!
i think your design is even better than mine. i am perplexed as to how we got left of the final round. this contest is beginning to feel like the whole WTC freedom tower competition...rigged from the start. only in america could we fail to choose a decent architecture or a decent t-shirt.
T-Shirt Contest
welcome to the 3dh week archinectars!!
yeah i was all excited, until i saw that nothing is happening... i want my 3dh!!!!
Agreed, i want my fancy graphiX
Look in the image gallery!
I'd still say abracadabra first pic on this thread is the best by far
indeed. If those are the finalists, mine is actually in there... sweet. :D
I don't want to to actually be good graphic design, i want it to be painful to look at
i can't believe mine didn't make the cut...i guess i'll have to produce it myself now. damn.
wow, this is some sort of a joke right. i do not like any of the finalist t's.
I would never wear 6 out of 8 of those shirts and the other 2 possibly as a doo-rag.
they all look too professional...the winner should have much more "amatuerish/we todd did" aesthetic.
Yes, perhaps, may I even suggest... a lack of aesthetic??????
i cant make up my mind...i would wear the giant 3D-H 'HI'
doo doo

Redesign, Redraw, Resubmit... or just buy your own.
a lot of negativity in here... jeez. although, I have to say the shirts didn't get much of a positive send up from archinect.
negativity yes but i am still buying one of the winners. is it too early to reserve mine?
man those shirts miss the point entirely. abra's is 10000000000000x more in the spirit of the 'fancy graphics' thread. what a let-down.
and wtf???? does ronchamp have anything to do with this???
i think corb generated the form with 3dh and then just troweled stucco over the whole thing...

joed,

I refuse to allow archinect to make money off of any of these lame designed t-shirts.
Yeah...the Ronchamp one left me scratching my head. Its a nice vector graphic...but doesn't seem relevant. Submit it to Threadless.
Pencrush, don't be upset because joed said you design shirts for Urban Oufitters.
come on, reducing the image to three colors would only make it fancier! maybe the background is black and white and the letters stay pink...

Here Here! I have been saying it all along. LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE!!!
*Urban Outfitters employees and their family members are exempt from voting.

well you failed. unless your design is the 3dh "Hi" shirt, which didn't fail, it gets more like a b-. i'm sure there's some fancy a+ action among the entries.
fair enough. ;)
stop with the ;)... we get it

is that better?

oh that emoticon t-shirt wasn't mine...
There must be some mistake - I am not a finalist. I had my speech ready and everything... ;(
since paul won't do it, i'll post my design...
Hi Fancy Graphics Love Me!
