notice period

What's a good notice period?  I know what the empt agreement states, but what's a nice thing to offer if you want to stay on good terms?  Is it really weird and rude to propose to take unused vacation time for part of one's notice period (say, work for 2 weeks and take 2 weeks off)?

No matter the circumstances, no one is obligated to more than 2 weeks notice. If you can't leave on good grace with this amount of time, then it's the employer's fault. As a courtesy, you may want to time your departure after a milestone submission or major deadline. If possible, letting them know ahead of the deadline, but also sticking it out until the deadline demonstrates a tremendous amount of professionalism.

Also, if you are owed payed vacation, typically you just get paid out those hours when you leave. You can then just take that time off between jobs.
