Just to get a tally of who's going where and into what program, I'm going to declare that I'm headed to SCI-Arc, M Arch 1. Maybe people should link up, exhange emails, maybe even locales should help out of towner get situated.
School: SCI-Arc
Program: M. Arch 1

I'm visiting Columbia on Tuesday, so I'll know then, for sure. Right know, it's between them and MIT. SOMEONE HELP!
Matr, when did you hear from Rice, by the way, I still haven't :(
lenaV: i have to admit, i had my best friend call for me on friday - they told him i got in - i'm still waiting to get all the info in the mail but i believe the money will be much more right than yale - peace
they took you right out of undergrad? isn't that pretty uncommon for ivy? I didn't even apply ivy because of it. did you get accepted to most places you applied? what are you studying now?
I graduated a year and a half early (Xavier University) and got accepted to Cincinnati (I already live here and can't go elsewhere for at least another year, so it's the only place I applied).
I too was accepted everywhere I applied. I was offered full tuition plus a stipend from UCLA. They also payed $500 for expenses occured while visiting their open house. SCI-Arc offered full tuition, MIT - full, GSD - 3/4 tuition.
i have always considered grad school so i am intensely curious to see some examples of the portfolios you acceptees have put together and perhaps some ideas about letters of recommendation. anyone care to share?
I'm going because I'm already here...doing a dual degree with City Planning. :) But regardless, I really like the focus of the program on the practice of landscape architecture beyond traditional park/garden design into realms of infrastructure design/ brownfield reclamation / urban design / urbanism. There is still a great deal of focus on gardens and parks, but also new ideas about how and where landscape architecture is relevant. A lot of the studios have some type of urban element to them. If this is what you are interested in, Penn seems to be the place to be.
Also....having said that, I've spoken to some people currently in the program who are disappointed because the scale of the studio projects are often very large. Not that you won't get a chance to design small spaces, but the focus is more on the large scale. The actual full name of the department as founded by Ian McHarg is Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning and while the program has changed a lot since McHarg's time, the "Regional Planning" influence is still there.
Grad School Final Decision...Where are you heading to?
