What happened to the Archinect Salary Poll?!

jplourde

I remember when the new version of Archinect rolled out, there was talk of the salary poll being updated.  IE searchable, statistical etc.  What is going on with this?  Has the project been abandoned or when will it roll out?

Alternatively, does anyone know of a good online salary poll for California?

AIA National just released their big survey regarding architects billing index for this year - down 25% - from those responding!!! it also has the median salaries of employees for each region - reporting. take a look!

the 2011 AIA compensation report is $195 for members.  you'd think it'd be in the AIA's best interest to put that in the public domain.

hello, archinect?  anybody home?  when is the revamped poll rolling out?  to be honest it was one of my favorite features on the site - archdaily has more, and higher quality updates regarding projects...

of course when you type in 'architect' into various online salary polls they tend to  mostly return ICT systems architects.  especially in sf.

jplourde: why would the AIA - which spends many thousands of its members' dues dollars to collect and publish the salary data - want to make the results available for free to people who don't support the AIA? Reliable data's never free - get over it.

because the mission statement of the AIA is "to promote the artistic, scientific, and practical profession of its members;  to facilitate their intercourse and good fellowship;  to elevate the standing of the profession; and to combine the efforts of those engaged in the practice of Architecture, for the general advancement of the Art."   notice no where in that does it say "to be an inefficient organization that spends many thousands of members' dues dollars to move paper around without affecting critical change.''

everyday there are new posts on archinect about [un]employment, salaries, fees, [un]paid internships, interviews, going back to school, etc.etc.  a reliable open source salary database could do a lot to address some of those problems.  i would assume most individuals, AIA members or not,  who are looking for a job or for a higher salary are not in a position pay $195 for a study that only a small portion of applies to them.  if the AIA spent thousands to garner a reliable statistical survey but then disseminate the knowledge in a fashion that's difficult or cumbersome to access, then that is mere ineffectual bureaucracy and certainly not ''elevating the profession''.

If you want to read it for free, anyone can trot down to their local AIA office and read it there. They'd be happy to show it to you.

Does the survey consider work hours?

file,

they apparently don't want their own members (who presumably do support the AIA to some degree) to look at it for free - as they're charging members $200 for it...
