More photos of the interior prior to any work. Really interesting dilapidated Japanese vernacular. I have been in a few SFR homes of this state in the US.
Leave me alone and let me remodel something like this in the Japanese countryside and I could be so happy. The cost of construction and materials must be high though.

Not an expert but perhaps people kill themselves in Japan way before they end up on the streets...
Also there are the super tiny bedroom sized 'apartments' in Japan. Very similar to what is occurring in China, just a lot nicer.
