Yes- there’s the table in the building code. In NYC, you take your gross apartment area and you divide it by 200 to get your allowable occupant load. But what about guests? How does that factor into your stair width calculations?
If business is 1 / 100 and people sit barely 5-6 feet apart, one would think 1 / 200 is plenty for the full time residents plus their occasional guests for egress calcs. Unless your client plans on having regular 200+ person events on the roof as a PA space, doesn’t seem like much reason to add more restrictions to the code. There’s also the minimum width to conform to, which occasionally is more than the required width based on occupants.
