Renovation In France

Meelius

Hello. No idea if this is the right place to post this but got to start somewhere..

So I am an architect/lecturer renovating an old village house in South of France - fairly close to Carcassonne. I'm looking for some help with general DIY / decoration and SMALL building work.

So if lockdown has left you lethargic or worse, then maybe this is an opportunity to get some sun, have some fun, and get some hands on practical architectural experience..?

The catch; I can't pay so this is a work for food/board deal.

I will not ask for more than 5 hours labour/day in exchange for free food /board /wine /beer and hopefully a fun & enjoyable authentic village experience in Sunny France - a truly beautiful part of the world. I am also open to your design ideas particularly those with a sustainable/eco angle.

Travel to France is now possible from the UK and other Europen coutries again since June 15. Flights to this part of the world are still few though, so train travel is probably the best option. .

Happy to give further details to those interested.

Salut! En Y Vas!

Come back & post photos of your progress

Ques: I see so many renovated historic stone buildings on Archdaily with clean modernist interventions. Are engineers in Europe designing reinforcement for these buildings? Or is there a laissez faire attitude towards the older portions [it's still standing; it should stand further years from now]? Is it regulated?

We have significant requirements for unreinforced masonry buildings in my area (northwest US), such that it, in many ways, suppresses development by owners. [usually commercial structures]

bonne chance

Hi Proto

Sure I will post some photos.

As for your q's in all honesty I cannot answer other then in my own experience there is indeed a rather laissez faire attitude. I havent worked professionally in the US but I would say it sounds rather more stringent.

Best
