Life Safety Architecture Plan Questions - Travel Distances - R-2 Occupancy

VCar

Good Day,

I'm working on a life safety sheet and am having a hard time with travel distances. Can the travel distance be a diagonal movement or does it have to be right angles?  Does one take into consideration furniture arrangement and "move around the furniture"?

Also, in an R-2 Occupancy, do you measure travel distances from the most remote location in the "apartment" or the most remote, NORMALLY occupied location in the apartment? (So if a bedroom closest is the most remote location in the apartment, would I measure from there, or from the most remote location in the bedroom itself?)

Thank you for any help!

Most remote is exactly what it says. When you draw your path of travel you can't guarantee future furnishings, but you need to show a good faith estimate of an actual egress path. Diagonal through the rooms won't cut it.
