New stairs in a single family house renovation.There is an inswing door to a bedroom off to the side of the top of the stair landing. It's tight... 5" from the top nosing to the edge of door. I could not find anything in the stair code about this condition. Remember this a single family home and does not need to comply to ADA. Before saying make the door narrower... Let me know if you know if this would be kosher or if there is a minimum distance for the side door to the edge of stairs.

There is nothing in the IRC regarding that situation. As long as you have 36" clear at the landing you're all set.
