Please help with roof design

wholley

I'm building my own pier and beam 1500 sq ft house and have general framing skills but don't know how to to design the roof. I've designed the house layout and porch and really need some help with the roof and porch framing design.

Thank you so much in advance

Don't listen to these greedy fucks. Some of us love giving free advice (it may not be best advice, but free is free!).

But before we can help you, where does the kitchen go? This is important. Kitchen cabinets actually hold up the roof.

^double important note is the spec on those cabinet hinges. They need to be installed in triplicate and be extra heavy-duty. Don't let those ikea hacks tell you otherwise.

Kitchen needs to be in the middle of the floor plan since it's holding up the roof. Else roof will slide right off.

Also, where does the person in 3rd bedroom take a shower? Or are they limited to whore's bath in the 2 piece washroom?

I'm being serious. Don't do this to yourself. Just get some trusses. All you need is the load information. And if you source the trusses locally, they probably know it anyway.

You need to buy the full version of SmartDraw, the free version doesn't do roofs.

JawkneeMusic thinks he's getting paid by the post.

Then hire an architect.

If you must do this hire a roofing contractor as a consultant to begin with. Also move the fireplace so the chimney is on the roof ridge line, otherwise rain will run down the roof and hit the vertical surface of the chimney and the roof will be subject to developing leaks at that intersection.  Actually you could rotate the fireplace 90 degrees and locate it where the overhead fan is now and the fireplace could serve as a room divider.

You should build an octagonal house instead.

Tell your friends it's a statement on all the corners you cut to get the job done.
