I'm to reproduce an incomplete set of drawings for an assignment I'm working on, no details are provided. The detail shown, 1/09 is between a sloped roof and a parapet wall; my question is
Is this a flashing (if so what is it called), or is it a form of box gutter?
It's not a rectangular parapet, it's set back as shown below.
If I'm looking at the elevations right, it looks like the vertical wall isn't perpendicular. If so, it has decent slope. So it is closer to a box gutter. SMACNA is your friend here.
Internal gutter - my all time favorite. Completely detail with membrane before setting and tying in the stainless sheet metal. Also, change it to an internal gutter shape.
Fabricate a 'cricket' normally used on chimneys that have roof water drainage impacting them at 90 degrees impeding runoff.

I think the shingles just overlap the copper plate and because of the camera angle it appears the copper is flush with the shingles. Look at the shingles on the left and right side of the chimney to see the overlap. Why it was necessary to cut the shingles at all is a good question.

It is neither. It is a terrible detail.
What would generally be used in this situation?
Based on the information you gave us: nothing. Redo the roof slopes as to avoid the sharp juncture.

@khailrigg - if you are allowed, provide a roof cricket (saddle) to avoid that detail
