What are your thoughts on Le Corbusier?

myalynngrimm

People tend to be very divided over the man, either you love him or hate him and I'd like to hear the viewpoints of both of the groups. I hardly see any critiques of him online, which is strange considering how divisive and influential he was.

If you like him, which projects of his are your favorites and why?

If you dislike him, why?

This behavior is an insidious kind of entitlement. Why don't you start by offering up your own ideas and opinions?

Assuming you have any, of course.

I was merely leaving the discussion open instead of people's first instinct to be to defend their own stance against the original post. I want people to post their opinions without trying to prove anything so I can discuss ideas with them. I don't care much for Le Corbusier, his buildings are generally not very visually pleasing to me (although there are exceptions like Notre Dame du Haut) and what I know about his philosophy behind design to not be very appealing either but I'm not an expert on the guy, so perhaps I have false perceptions about him. I'm not sure what's so 'insidious' and 'entitled'
about that

THOU SHALL NOT BLASPHEME CORBU.

the difference is, if you like corbu you might be an architect.  if you don't like corbu, you're probably an accountant or something like that.

nice, safe traffic flows: the high speed traffic out of harms way, pedestrians everywhere with shops and services on the ground floor, you must be a real fan!

OP, why waste your efforts and energy on a topic (Le Corbusier in this case) you don't even care for all that much? Put your efforts in topics that you do love, or are you trying to crowdsource your homework ;)

What are your thoughts on Thomas Heatherwick? or Bjarke Ingels? or Aravena? or Snohetta?

these are the folks shaping our future built enviro and will be around for years, I would focus on them before that dead head.

I think Le Corbusier solved the trick in the Architecture Game. I think Le Corbusier will continue to appeal to future generations for a long time. .

Le Corbusier looked cool to me when I was younger and in school. Now I think he is more of a socialist/communist.
