Upon reading a magazine article the other day, I came to the realisation that my firm's history spans over 150 years. I am actually curious to know which is the world's oldest firm still operating today. How old is your firm?
Our office has been continuously registered for about 82ish years. I believe it's the oldest in the province but I can't confirm that.
What I like most is that going through the portfolio from across the decades, you see some real highs and lows in terms of project quality. Similarly, staff numbers have gone up and down significantly over that time. It helps me have some perspective.
I've seen a list of the oldest continuously operating architecture firms in the US. There are more than 50 firms that are 100+ years old and still operating. A handful of them are over 150 years old, and the oldest few are about 165. The oldest firm that I worked for was about 90. It went out of business about 10 years after I left, at just short of 100.
Our firm is in the 100+ crowd. I know there were some mergers in the 70s-80s but don't know anything about it. Also in 2003 and 2014 we had mergers. During the 2003 one, the way younger firm basically bought out the older one but kept the name? Who knows exactly how it works, but out of the current big 3 with corner offices, 2 were from the 2003 younger firm and 1 is from the 2014 merger. Sooo... are we really 100+ years old? Marketing says so!

Our office is just about 9 years old. The oldest we've collaborated with but still on top of the game could be Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, 1936.

I worked with a design-build GC from Japan that was founded in 1862. Hard to imagine many other companies out there in existence that long.
Luckett and Farley, in Kentucky, and SmithGroup in Detroit, both claim they were founded in 1853.
