architecture Work and NYC approval

Johnsei12

This is in regards to NYC approval. Can architect draw a plan of a structure that has already been build (from original plan what the city has) and get the city approval ?

I hope I make sense.

If you can’t untangle that mess of a question you’ll be hard pressed to get any sort of permit from the DOB. NYC is one of, if not the most red tape laden jurisdictions in the country. You need to team up with someone experienced in NYC DOB permits, otherwise face many potential rejections and revisions.

It’s almost always cheaper to just hire an experienced architect or expediter than to trial and error your way through the DOB. Respect that knowledge and experience, and be prepared to pay a fair rate for the things you don’t know or can’t surmise on your own. Try to circumnavigate that payment with free forum answers and you’ll pay through the nose in DOB refiling fees + time spent in the review process.

Why do you need to draw " a plan" and get approval if the building is already built?
