Cannot find a job at an architectural firm that sponsor my visa

2014March

I'm a recent graduate with a degree in M.Arch. I'm currently on an OPT visa, which allows me to work in the US for 1 year, but I need to find an employment within 90 days.

I was under time pressure to secure employment so I even applied for a company I was not interested in. I recently offered a position from a company that does audio visual design and creates spatial design with technology.

I know that the company I got a job offer was not my ideal firm. Should I take the offer and look for a new job in the mean time, or declined the offer and find an ideal job?

If you lack the common sense to realize how idiotic a question this is than maybe you aren't cut out to make it in architecture.

Your comment is very idiotic. If you made it, it proves anyone can.

why would you apply for visa before securing employment?

This kind of visa situation is common for grad school graduates.

Take the job. Get any experience that you can get. It is somewhat related to architecture. Worry about your "ideal job" later in your career.

Why would you file your permits before you finished CDs?  Because some steps take longer than others.  Not that I like an untold number of "100% CD" sets + multiple addenda due to permit comments, transit authority comments, Neighborhood planning unit comments, insert your AHJ here comments... but that's the name of the game.

Go for it Immigration is only going to get more restrictive in the US, don't waist any time. Once you get a green card you will have more options.

No officer will come up to your door after 90 days and escort you to airport. At least that was the case couple years ago although I am not sure whether Trump did something to mess that up. I think you should be patient and not take some random shitty job that is completely different from what you want to do.

take the job-work towards a green card-move to a better job.

will this job prevent you from getting a different job?  I don't see the issue
