Puerto Rico

designermom

I was wondering if anyone here knew of an organization that I could join to help in the rebuilding of Puerto Rico? I would love to donate my services to them. There used to be a group called Architects for Humanity, but I don't think they are around anymore. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Good for you! PR definitely needs a lot of help. Architecture for Humanity changed to the Open Architecture Collective - https://archinect.com/firms/co... - try checking in with them to see if they can help.

Hopefully some other suggestions will be shared here.

I think they died when the Bauhaus tap-danced onto the stage.

Parts of Puerto Rico are quite mountainous with peaks above 4,000 feet so it is not subject to sustained flooding or even storm surges along much of its coastline. It is actually in a better shape than Florida or Texas in that respect. There was a large US air force base on the western end of the island, Ramey AFB, and a large naval port on the eastern end, Roosevelt Rhodes, that were unaccountably closed years ago. Both locations were prized assignments by military members and their families. The bases were a massive help to the PR economy also.

Except for the fact that steep terrain under torrential rains is subject to landslide, like what just happened in Utuado.

I'm assuming these suggestions of relocation would also apply to N.O., Miami, Houston, Ocean City,Atlantic City, Rockaway...

Semi-related, has anyone heard of any news regarding what kinds of efforts are being made (or even proposed) as potential solutions our industry can provide for the damage done in Puerto Rico?

This article about Andrews University students going to PR for aid seems interesting.
