Portfolios for different career paths

kastina

So, let's say an architecture graduate wants to apply for a design career, such as graphic design for instance. What should their portfolio include if the work they've produced is mostly directly related to architecture? Is it the emphasis on thought process that makes a portfolio good in this situation? Thanks

For graphic design, I would think demonstration of your knowledge of pertinent software (excellent work in ID, PS, AI).  Diagrams, layout of course, use of fonts, layouts of presentation/competition boards, any website work (story boarding, etc) and websites with your work; examples of graphic work (presumably you've done CD covers, posters, cards, etc for friends/family).  Most probably appreciate sketches, etc as well.

What makes a portfolio good is that you show what they want to see and show it at a high quality level.  Quite frankly, out of school, the portfolios probably aren't much different.
