jdesp, if you are willing to be less arch focued and more interior/furniture focused, many id shops might be of interest to you. id firms tend to be more multi-disciplined than arch firms. they will usually take on much more than product design and venture into interiors, furniture, digital design, print, branding, app design, interface design, and more. along with pentagram above, here are some examples ot those >>

i hear though, that lundberg doesnt get much work, they are a more design-study based firm that can handle their own load of projects. i could be wrong and probably am, but that may be cause they didnt hire me

South Park is the iconic SF design/build outfit but you might need full sleeves and a big-ass motorcycle to work there.

also, Blank and Cables:

but they arn't as cool.

So where can I get a big-ass motorcycle for dirt cheap?

JdseP - Pentagram SF has an intern program for their product team if you are interested. It's decent pay with a few extra perks...I found the little details to be quite nice (breakfast, chill hours, borrow the car). More importantly, the work is challenging and the people are excellent. They treated me like family. I'm going back in January to complete a 6-month co-op on the interactive team. If you seriously would like to work there...I can tell you more in email.

e - Just curious, what about Pentagram are you not so fond of? the SF office specifically?

charles, with regards to the sf office specifically, i can offer no insight. with regards to pentagram generally, i feel that because they are so broad in their interests that some of their interests are not so successful. their branding is obviously good, but their architecture, interiors, and to some extent, their product are not. i saw a similar problem when i was at frog. they thought they could do it all. years later, they are learning that they can't.

e. I will have to say those were my thoughts as well (I really don't know enough about product, arch, or interior to comment on those areas)...I just do interactive :)

I personally enjoy the work environment but as you know (SF) is by far the most chill of the Pentagram offices.

As far as Frog ... my roomate is working there this winter for digital stuff. I always thought they wore the multi-disciplinary hat with pride.

THE SUPERMARKET

We just started a new globalisation called "THE SUPERMARKET".
We are a multidisciplinary studio that calls nowhere home.
it all started as a side project and for the most part still is. i just began gaining so much work outside of architecture that i decided to get some people together and start something. diversify or die. or be very very bored at work... day after day of the same.

we want to be everywhere all the time.
masters of disasters.
