Opportunities after MSc in Sustainability from UK?!? Urgent!!

shabari.shaily

Hey Everyone! I am an architect with Indian qualification, and presently writing my dissertation in UK for MSc in Sustainable Built Environment course. I was assuming that having a specialization in a subject like this which is a 'hot-topic' nowadays will give me better opportunities after completing the studies. However, I am left with only 2 months before I finish and still have no idea, where I am going to go after this. I am ready to take any offer that comes my way for an internship, work placement or job in any field that relates to architecture ANYWHERE in the world. I have developed interest in research as well, so I am even ready to work with organizations that work on theoretical base of the subject of sustainable development. However, I do not see any bright light anywhere!!..I have applied in a few architectural firms in Singapore, Hong Kong and even in Europe. But no positive response as yet. I would be glad if anyone here can help me sort things out. I am almost like a nomad looking for any sign of career anywhere to push start. Not to forget, I am a fresh graduate, so that's a bit tricky case too in the current employment scenario.

Have a look at Battle McCarthy. Also Davis Langdon. There are dozens of firms in London that have specialist sustainability teams.

It took most of my MSc in Envinomental Design colleagues at least 6 months after finishing to find a job and a lot had to take something not necessarily in sustainability... it is tough because an MSc is not an engineering degree and most places that have dedicated sustainability teams prefer to hire engineers as they have more technical knowledge.. that being said, you might have more opportunities in India or as a research assistant at one of the universities that specializes int he topic.

good luck!

Thanx PsyArch and AFLArch . Well, with firms in London, the foremost requirement is to have a work permit beforehand, which I do not have at the moment. Secondly, I agree with you AFLArch in terms of technicality issue, but I am trying to get in touch with some of the firms which work for community engagement in the field of sustainable development. Unfortunately, I have not received any response as yet. But then i understand that the situation is tough here! ..I am still keeping my fingers crossed! Even, for the research assistant's post, I have not come across any that particularly relate to my field.
