Updated portfolio website

lewis bailie

Apart from it's small size and the poor quality of some of the images, what do you think of this website and the work and photos contained therein?

Thanks.

a few links are getting lost. but other than that it is very clean and simple. which program are you using for this...the navigation text to the left is a bit grainy it seems...even a few images

construction trades college is very interesting too. nice work.

links are messed up...

I hate using the BACK button....so I like to see the hierarchy of the links

your drawings are nice.. but what is up with the images? resize them so they aren't brutally pixelated.

see above, you should at least have a 'back' button or a way to get back to the main menu easily (most people will enter one project, then give up)

is there not some disadvantage to putting your name out with your app portfolio? I'm curious to get feedback but it seems like maybe not the best idea.

Thanks for your comments.
Sarmath - you reckon it would be better nameless. What is your reasoning behind this? Do you suggest using a false name?

Thanks again.

The program is Flash.

I have removed the 'Back' button, so it's strange that it appears on some of your browsers..

I'm not making a suggestion, just asking out of personal curiosity

The others don't seem to have an opinion on this. Thanks for your comment anyway..

if your name is on the physical port, then it won't matter, if you are sending links where you want anonymity, then of course you'd want something generic (but someone can always find who the domain is registered to)

lb - nav is still not working here. You need a preloader if the file is getting too large. People will not wait when they can't see if the site is doing anything.

The 'back' button people were referring to is for the browser, not your site.

While I love Flash, this is a good example of a site that is not benefiting from the technology. You could have easily done this with basic html. It is ok, just utlize things like preloaders to make it more intuitive.

Get preloaders in there to control what is loading, so we know that the site is working (the photography section looked broken, so i gave up, but just noticed something loaded).

Design - the site is basic and simple, which is good, just keep it consistent (like the home button disappearing is confusing, we don't really know what 'home' is)

Size - you need larger images/enlarge feature. Back in the day, small was necessary because of download times. Nowadays we want to see something larger.

construction trades college looks like a cool project but i can't tell because the pictures are grainy and pixelated. resize them in photoshop instead of using flash to scale them down? will work wonders to turn your site around. also think about easier navigation. why must things hide when you click? why not leave all links open at all times? that is true net democracy...

Thanks for your helpful comments. I'll try to fix the images and put preloaders in..

Lewis, you actually don't need flash for anything you are doing on the website. I would suggest using HTML and JS to get the results you want. There are tons of places where you can get all sorts of javascripts.
