I'm gonna have a couple of days to kill in Las Vegas next month, and I'm looking for some things to check out besides casinos and strippers. Anyone got any suggestions? Anything within a 3-4 hour drive?
Hoover damn is great, but I think tours are off since 9/11. You should check ahead. The Grand Canyon isn't really until threat of attack so you might check that out too.
If you happen to head for complex one...wear a bullet proof vest and don't expect the area ranchers to be friendly....like if you ask for directions....you will most likely run out of gas in the middle of no where.
I've heard all kinds of crazy stories about how the rollar coasters up there were built with out permits and the structural engineer won't ride them. Any of you Las Vegas people have the low down?
So I'm going there soon for a week. Anything new to see out there other than my salary dissipate? I don't want to rent a car and I'm not sure about the public trasportation there (is there any? I'll have to look it up) so walking distance should be good.
philarch....you might want to go hang at a domino's pizza place and cruise the city with a pizza delivery guy. I'm sure if you give him $10.00 he would be glad to have your company for an evening.

Red Rock Canyon is a good spot to hike / boulder / rock climb - couple miles west of Vegas.
Hoover Dam

I can't believe that they named anything after Herbert Hoover.

Zion national park, southern Utah.
St. George Utah, the exact opposite of Las Vegas. It's oozing morality.
there's also some small polygamist communities around there. Its fun to spot them. Ask them what they think about gay marriage. You'll be surprised!
anything new to see in Vegas to add to the thread?

Definately the Valley of Fire. Its about 1 hour north of Vegas off of I-15. Much better than Red Rock Canyon. The desert is so amazing.
Go to the top of the stratosphere and soil yourself.

Just don't end up spending a night in the county jail! It would make for a terrible time in Los Wages....
