Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife Headquarters

The new Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife Field Headquarters occupies a bluff overlooking a wildlife management area totaling 1,000 acres.  The new Headquarters is one of three projects selected to become the first public sector zero net energy building in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The building accommodates 120 staff in a state-of-the-art office building with ample meeting, support and storage space. This program includes a 150-person flexible multi-purpose room, classrooms, environmental review conference rooms, reference library, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) laboratory, and field research (wet-bench) laboratories.

Multiple architectural, site and energy system options were developed in the early study phase. Energy modeling guided the selection of the preferred option. Site/development includes a landscaped courtyard that serves as a demonstration ecosystem.

In its first year of operation, the new building supplied 98% of its energy needs through a large photo-voltaic array and ground source heat pumps.
