The Black Falcon Terminal, originally constructed for wharf storage in the 1920’s, has been used as Boston’s cruise ship passenger terminal for over 25 years. 200,000 cruise passengers pass through the terminal each year. This major design overhaul created new passenger departure facilities on the previously unoccupied third level, and re-branded the facility by refurbishing exterior and interior finishes and signage throughout.
New elevators, escalators and moving ramps streamline ticketing and boarding operations. The design encompasses new energy efficient HVAC and lighting systems and water conserving public bathrooms. Historic elements such as clerestory windows and roof-mounted hoist supports are retained and enhanced by the design.
An outsized sign mounted on the existing gantry steelwork welcomes cruise passengers to Boston and is visible to jet passengers landing at Logan airport.
