FLOATING IN SPACE
15,000 square foot MFW offices on the 26th floor at Brooklyn’s Metro tech center, maintains a sense of independence and privacy, while creating a more open, collaborative atmosphere.
The front door is strategically located allowing for a long distance view of the New York skyline as visitors approach the entrance. The reception area is anchored by a custom-fabricated desk and an undulating red wall that houses IT offices and equipment. Opposite the reception area is a 20 by 40 floating conference room with large glass windows.
Open-office design and continuous glass office walls, allows the staff of the Ms. Foundation to work in the open, fostering cross-department collaboration. Exterior offices are separated from support spaces with glass walls and doors, which allow in outside light natural light and visual access to the panorama below. The room with the best views is the café, with its communal pantry and lunch tables. Bold furniture, carpet and low-energy florescent lighting create a vibrant atmosphere that is both ergonomic and environmentally sensitive. In order to gain the 12 ft. loft-like height in a quarter of the space, the ceiling was left open, exposing the building’s fireproof beams. Floating renewable bamboo ceiling tiles line spaces between beams.
