INTEGRATED TOWN
BUILT SUSTAINABILITY
INNOVATIVE URBAN DESIGN
Aquapolis is a 152-acre integrated township, with 5.5 million square feet of residential, 400 plots for homes, 500,000 sq. ft commercial and retail space based on GDA guidelines, on the outskirts of New Delhi- NCR Region, India. Like a historic Indian town, Aquapolis’s center of gravity is its shallow shaded ponds. Devoted to water, the town is taking steps to promote sustainability, includ¬ing retaining grey-water for irrigation, bio-retention ponds and naturally ventilated residential apart¬ments with green roofs. The 25% of land is allocated for green spaces, parks, gardens, waterways and greenways are inter-connected for large trees and ground water percolation with a separate water harvesting pond. The vehicular traffic and pedestrian path system are segregated throughout the township. The township accommodates 2 level subterranean 4000 car parking garages with green roofs to create a green, livable community.
The town plan evokes urban spaces like tree lined avenues, arcades, oversize courtyards, plazas in a new urban setting. The commercial buildings are placed along the busy sector road and 5 Star hotel property along the NH- 24. The LIG and EWS housing is accommodated adjoining the existing village.
Nine prototype residential towers promote varia¬tion in the streetscape and create small, distinct neighborhoods within the township, forming an exciting urban atmosphere. In addition to an eight-acre commercial center and a five-star hotel, the mixed-use development provides public amenities including schools, playgrounds, a health center and community center. Aquapolis is a model for sustainable growth of India’s major cities.
